Wide awake here, cheers peri

And I think I may be the only person who's done 0 food prep. It'll just get done today!

I prepped the meat last night. I haven’t done any vegetable prep. Children have just opened their presents. I’m going back to bed.. food can wait

ploikj · 25/12/2023 08:33

Na we don't prep day before. Tbh I do buy a lot of premade things like the cauliflower cheese, red cabbage, stuffing etc. DH peels the veg, takes like 20 mins? We enjoy Christmas Eve too so makes no sense to do it that day.

SlightlygrumpyBettyswaitress · 25/12/2023 08:34

I never do anything before the day!
Nigella Xmas Muffins for brekkie
Turkey Crown in at 10, out at 12.15
Peel Spuds. Chop Carrots. Chop parsnips Do Brussels. Wrap 1 rasher of bacon around each chipolata x 36.
Oven up high. Chuck in roasties. 30 mins later chuck in carrots/parsnips/ pigs.
20 mins whilst making Nigella Bread Sauce and doing green veg.
On the table for 2ish.

Ladyj84 · 25/12/2023 08:40

No your not the only one I just do it as I would any meal in the day

RedToothBrush · 25/12/2023 08:41

I made pigs in blankets and froze them. I got them out of the freezer last night. Does that count???

SquigglePigs · 25/12/2023 08:42

We unexpectedly had to ship Christmas to my in-laws yesterday so instead of prep, we packed and drove so all the food is here but no prep done. It'll get done at some point. Nothing about this year is going to be normal!

ReTrainTheBrain · 25/12/2023 08:43

I peeled a ton of sprouts last night but that's it. Having a coffee then peeling potatoes, carrots and parsnips. Dh is dealing with the meat.
Dd has prepped some desserts.

My house is a tip so it's going to be a mad clean when I get dcs up.
We're hosting this year.

MrsClatterbuck · 25/12/2023 08:50

Dh prepped the BBQ yesterday as we are having sirloin steaks with pepper sauce roasties and roasted Mediterranean veg. Only fidly thing is peeling the garlic cloves.
Just the 2 of us and have done roast Christmas Dinner for over 35 years so keeping it simple this year.

Onthegrid · 25/12/2023 09:05

No prep here, unless you count working out how long the turkey will take to cook as prep.
It's 9am and I am the only one up, just grabbing a coffee before I wash and get dressed. In previous years I would have set the table and got the crockery out for today but instead I went out yesterday and will get it done today, there are only us 4 and 3 guests for dinner (no kids) and I have planned for later afternoon as I am not going to be the person up at the crack of dawn cooking a turkey.
When the adult DC get up DH will cook breakfast and we will have a couple of hours when we all work together on the prep, before we all relax and enjoy the day.

sashh · 25/12/2023 09:05

I have not even decided what I'm eating.

But I don't actually celebrate and I'm on my own.

I have chicken thighs and I have steak.

TheChosenTwo · 25/12/2023 09:07

We spent the vast majority of the day prepping, we have 14 for dinner and another 7 guests in the evening so it’s quite chaotic.
although all my kids are still in bed, perhaps they didn’t get the memo about it being a busy day 😂

wineandmaltesershappyme · 25/12/2023 09:09

Doing it now while waiting for guests. Worked out timings last night but that was all. Merry Christmas everyone 🎄🥂

Mummadeze · 25/12/2023 09:11

Just three of us and I buy everything ready prepped. Am no cook amd want minimal stress.

CharlotteBog · 25/12/2023 09:17

None here, but DSs are cooking Xmas lunch while I collect family royalty!

I get a nice car trip (music, chat with lovely cousin) while they're cooking.

ExtraOnions · 25/12/2023 09:21

None … everyone is still asleep, and I’m in bed. Eating at 4, so I’ll start soon(ish)

PolizeiobermeisterWache · 25/12/2023 09:22

M&S and Ocado have kindly done all my prep for me.

Tessisme · 25/12/2023 09:25

Only the breadcrumb stuffing here. We have one vegetarian, so the stuffing isn - well - stuffed, so DP can have some. It's his favourite part of the dinner! Everything else I just do on the day.

muckymayhem · 25/12/2023 09:26

I was wondering about this but we never do food prep - it's basically a just a roast - no kids like fancy stuff anyway- we'll put the Turkey in shortly - then have a manic hour in the kitchen and voila!

ErrolTheRednosedDragon · 25/12/2023 09:27

All I've done so far is get the beef out of the fridge. It's just a roast dinner for three of us. I should get dressed and start pottering peeling potatoes.

JenniferJupiterVenusandMars · 25/12/2023 09:32

Just done the vegetables and bread sauce is gently bubbling on the stove.
No hassle, we’ll eat when it’s ready, there’s just the two of us and I’ll pop the porchetta in in a couple of hours.

GrumpyPanda · 25/12/2023 09:33

Sis is hosting, I'm cooking the roast and bringing it over while it's resting in foil. Feast is postponed to tomorrow to accommodate her ILs and an elderly godmother so I'm doing one sidelights today (celeriac puree). Roast (beef) has been dry-rubbed two days ago, mashed potatoes will be done on the day as better fresh. Sis doing an extra two side dishes, not sure when.

arethereanyleftatall · 25/12/2023 09:33

It's just a choice isn't it.
Loads of prep/cooking, loads of stress and (hopefully) delicious food ....everything in between all the way down to...no cooking, ready meal, no stress and tasteless food (for many palates, I know quite a few people who can't really 'taste' food so a ready meal/aunt Bessie's is just as nice).

Judellie · 25/12/2023 09:39

Not done anything yet unless you include buying the Yule log the other day. I'll just do it at my mum's later where I'll be cooking lunch. It's chicken breasts anyway as nobody here's that fussed on turkey.

Gatehouse77 · 25/12/2023 09:42

The only things prepared in advance here are homemade stuffing, stock for gravy and desserts if they’re not shop bought.

Otherwise, we’ve done it all on the day too.

2jacqi · 25/12/2023 09:43

@fatandhappy47 to be honest this is the first year which the big dish has been prepared early by me! only have to peel potatoes for roasting and put the rest of the veggies on. I have even made and frozen a nut roast for a guest on boxing day!! I have surpassed myself!! queen of the kitchen is me! 👑mind you, I am 69 now so it has taken me a hell of a long time to get to this stage!! dont know what to do with myself for the next few hours so just looking at facebook!!!
