Wide awake here, cheers peri

And I think I may be the only person who's done 0 food prep. It'll just get done today!

Nothing here I booked lunch out and it's bliss. So so stress free, but my poor bank balance it's eye watering.

Beezknees · 25/12/2023 07:04

I cook the turkey the day before.

There's no way I'm doing any veg chopping, I've bought pre chopped roasties, carrots and parnsips so they just need bunging in the oven. I've got better things to be doing, like drinking prosecco.

starfishmummy · 25/12/2023 07:05

Not at all. We never do, it will get done today easily.

MrsBuntyS · 25/12/2023 07:15

Just 3 of us and one doesn’t eat roast. We’re having a large steak and veg, no roasties as we decided not to bother with them this year. I will hand make some special sides from scratch and x 2 sauces as well. DS seems to be sleeping in which fabulous. First time in years he hasn’t been up in the night. I kept waking though, thinking I could hear him!! Merry Christmas.

Oblomov23 · 25/12/2023 07:20

I agree. Some prep may be a good idea, but it's not always necessary. If you are marinating meat yeah. I pealed the potatoes last night. That's all I've done. It's only a roast for 5, not that much different to a normal roast.

Savedpassword · 25/12/2023 07:22

You’re amazing. Seriously AMAZING.
So cool and unbothered 😂

MrsRetriever · 25/12/2023 07:33

I haven’t - carrots, parsnips and potatoes for 2 of us and small DS will take about 10 mins, if that. Turkey is a prepped joint that just goes in the oven. Easy!

I don’t actually mind a peeling and chopping morning if everyone else has gone for a walk or whatever, but we don’t have any guests this year.

Janieforever · 25/12/2023 07:35

I’m up for the same reason, waking for the house to wake. So sitting quietly mumsnetting and drinking coffee.

I’ve also done zero prep, but I don’t do the prep anyway, it’s all done by my family, I’m thr cook, they will do it after brekkie.

Iloveburgerswaymorethanishould · 25/12/2023 07:41

I’ve made a trifle, par boiled my parsnips and chopped the carrots. Oh and cooked the ham and made some little orange gingerbread people (I say people as my cutters are a little family lol). Only feeding 4 and a fussy 4 year old.

TwentyThreeFifteen · 25/12/2023 07:42

No prep here, but I made my sticky toffee pudding yesterday.

AliTheMinx · 25/12/2023 07:58

Nothing here and I am hosting for 6! Still.in bed and everyone else is asleep. Always do it on the day and never an issue x

Simonjt · 25/12/2023 08:04

Nothing done here, I was at the gurdwara serving food for a lot of yesterday, so I didn’t have time.

I have my mum here who liked a traditional christmas dinner, so I’ll be doing a roast dinner for one, then I’ll do the curry we normally eat, and I’m doing a few Swedish bits on the side. I’ve done most of the oven based vegetables this morning, so they just need reheating later.

Erberts · 25/12/2023 08:06

I haven't, unless you count getting the goose out of the freezer a couple of days ago.

EarringsandLipstick · 25/12/2023 08:12

No prep, but none needed. Only me & DC, 4 in total, and a straightforward Christmas dinner.

Ham is soaking - I do usually cook this on Christmas Eve bit decided not to this year.

I am just about to make some brown bread for our salmon / crab starter.

Sides for main include a Christmas coleslaw which middle DC will make; a broccoli & feta salad (I know, but I'm not a big roast person, so that with some meat is what I'll enjoy eating!) which I'll do; and eldest DD will take care of the roast potatoes & veg, she's great at them.

It would be different if we'd guests of course but even then I think we'd just allocate a few more jobs early in the morning.

JustOneMoreBaileys · 25/12/2023 08:12

Nah.

I took the bird out the fridge this morning to warm up a little before cooking. That's it so far.

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 25/12/2023 08:12

Apart from making some jelly for the trifle I haven't done any prep.

My DP is still at work on a night shift but yesterday made reference to cooking the Christmas dinner so I'll leave it for him as I've woken up with awful back pain.

Not cooking anything special for us two and 2 toddlers. DP's mum might be coming too but she's already said she won't eat much so not to prepare extra food for her.

We're having a side of salmon and a small gammon joint with all the usual trimming. Won't be bothering with starters as we'll have to eat by 12:30 as the kids won't be able to wait any longer for food.

margotrose · 25/12/2023 08:13

We've done nothing but there's only two of us so it's nothing complicated.

We'll cook when we get back from walking the dog later. Only having chicken so it doesn't take ages.

FredaFox · 25/12/2023 08:13

No prep, lunch for 2
Turkey crown already in a tray
Just got veg to do, will do it once the turkey goes in

treacledan71 · 25/12/2023 08:15

I haven't either. Only cooking for 3 today and only veg teen eats is peas so not many sprouts etc to prepare. Might do extra for tomorrow though.

GoodOldEmmaNess · 25/12/2023 08:16

No prep here. I quite like mooching about peeling veg on Christmas morning. The only stressful part, as with any roast, is the end game, when you are trying to get everything to climax together and then transfer it to the plate without any part getting cold.

WithIcePlease · 25/12/2023 08:19

I've checked the cooking time for the turkey. Nothing else yet.

Pollymollydolly · 25/12/2023 08:24

I always prep on Christmas Eve. Turkey stuffed (two types, both ends), veg prepped and in bags in fridge, cranberry sauce made, Marie Rose sauce made for prawn cocktail (we go retro at Christmas!), sausage rolls made ready to go in oven. I just need to peel the spuds today as don’t like them left sitting in water so do them on the day.

MintJulia · 25/12/2023 08:26

As long as you remembered to take it out of the freezer, it doesn't matter. It's only a glorified roast.

Unless you are catering for 20. When still living at home and with a houseful, we used to prep the veggies after midnight service on Christmas Eve. A glass of wine each and sit there peeling potatoes and gossiping at 1am. 🙂

crackfoxy · 25/12/2023 08:29

Did all the prep yesterday... cooked the ham, beef just gone in, brother bringing turkey. Pots, carrots, parsnips, Brussels sorted. 10 for dinner so no choice but to prep before. Merry Christmas everyone!

Poppysmom22 · 25/12/2023 08:29

I've defrosted the turkey if that counts, it didn't really require any input it just happened by itself
