Christmas Eve Disasters

We are currently at my in-laws: me, DH, and two DDs - 9yo and 5yo. At around 5 this afternoon, just as I was smugly
congratulating myself on avoiding any illnesses or major catastrophes, my 5yo (lightly) bashes her face on the wooden arm of my FILs chair and knocks one front tooth out and another is now loose.

Blood everywhere. DH goes ashen and has to be consoled as he hates the sight of blood. 5yo is screaming her head off, I have blood all over my favourite hoodie. 9yo disappears in tears upstairs. I’m frantically trying to remember if this is a baby tooth or a permanent one! I’m 95% sure it’s a milk tooth but regardless we are booking a trip to the dentist in the New Year! I think I read something about baby teeth being smooth along the bottom (which this is) while grown teeth are jagged?

Anyway, 5yo is now the owner of an adorable lisp and I’ve started in on the Baileys.

Anyone else have any disasters?

Christmas Eve 1977, I'm due off shift at 8 pm, boyfriend picking me up and we're meeting friends at the pub. Gentleman brought into the ward dying, within minutes he's gone. As a student nurse my job was to make the tea and sit with his wife and daughter. Christmas carols playing in the background, poor lady ends up consoling me as I was a blubbering mess. Got off the ward late, grabbed my gear and ran out to waiting boyfriend still in my uniform which was against the rules. He didn't say a word , drove me home with me bawling my eyes out. We didn't make it to the pub.
Said boyfriend, is husband snoring his head off upstairs at the moment.
I've often thought of that lady and her daughter over the years at Christmas time.

We went to the panto last night, Christmas Eve treat for the kids. Couldn't find our car in the car park when we came out. Searched the whole car park top to bottom but no car anywhere so it's been stolen. Thank god for Uber, we managed to get home relatively easy but then had two upset, overexcited kids to get to bed. Spent the rest of the evening on the phone to the police and insurance company. Funnily enough not really in the festive spirit now.

1am and we are at the emergency vet with our dog who ate the mince pie our son left out for Santa. They’ve induced vomiting and after paying several hundred pounds we are hoping to take him home tonight 🤞. And next year Santa can go without!

What is in a mince pie that dogs should not eat?

Raisins, and probably alcohol.

Started yesterday feeling rubbish with a horrible cold that I've had for a week. Thought I couldn't feel any worse. Hahaha. Started throwing up at midnight. The D has joined D&V party too now 👍🏻 I'm lying on the landing alternating between sweats and shivers while my 8 year comes up and down to show me what was in her stocking

Just raisins in this one but didn’t want to take the chance. Apparently not all dogs react but for those who do it can be fatal. Wasn’t going to take the chance. £600 later!!

We have kept the mince pies hidden this year and warn all our guests. Our dog is huge and can reach all work tops, he ate a tiny piece of wedding cake once, it cost us over £800 at out of hours vets as they needed so much medication to make him sick and we had to give him so much charcoal after 😱

As others have said the raisins, they can be toxic and cause kidney failure, my dog was over 40 kg and they said even 1 could be a problem for him.
