To ask you for stocking tactics?

Our tradition is that Santa leaves stockings at the end of beds. I know I have made a rod for my own back on this, but it's done now, so I'm looking for the best tactics for getting a full stocking in without disturbing DCs.

Do I wait as late as possible until I'm going to bed?

Do I do it soon after they're asleep so they're less likely to randomly wake up?

Has anyone been caught in the act and come up with a good cover story?

DCs are 4 year old DTs and a toddler. Not worried about the toddler but it's the first year DTs have really got everything about Santa and I don't want to mess up!

Stocking goes outside the door. You can choose whether FC puts it inside once filled.
Wish I'd done that when mine were small.

Change it up and have them hang them elsewhere - it's the safest option!!

Sanch1 · 24/12/2023 19:00

Are they light sleepers?! Just take it out, fill elsewhere, then return it. Not really a drama?

Have two identical stockings. One is already packed and ready to do a quick switch. Just need to remember to always properly hide the empty one.

Mt daughter has decided her stocking goes in the lounge with the Christmas tree as she doesn't want father Christmas coming in her room, so thats nice and easy!
If you're caught maybe say you were checking he'd been?!

This. Never failed.

Stockings are hung by the chimney with care!

We place them on beds before we go to sleep.

GreatBigYou · 24/12/2023 19:09

Oh two stockings is genius!

Yes I realise that leaving stockings on the bed and returning them to the bed is unwise but it's too late to change it for this year now!

They are light sleepers and still often wake up at random times so I'm worried about getting caught and also about them waking up with stockings gone.

I can't do the 2 stockings as DD has mine from when I was a child! But she hangs it in the front room near the fireplace to make it quicker for Santa.
