To be slightly annoyed at nephews comment

My DS who is in his early 20's is a similar age to his cousin. Recently DS commented on a social media post by his cousin which included a photo of said cousin smoking a cigarette, DS commented "don't smoke, you're so crazy" His cousin then commented back saying "Did your mum hack you".

I am very anti-smoking and I have to admit nephews comment just king of irked me a bit. Am I being unreasonable, DH who doesn't smoke as well thinks I am."

Being slightly annoyed is fine as long as it doesn't translate into doing or saying anything about it.

It's presumably a jokey exchange between cousins, not aimed at you, and not your business.

SoFineOkay · 24/12/2023 15:29

Why do I imagine your nephew and his mates like this: Your Mum!

Not sure why it is okay to blame mum for a comment. It feels a bit misogynistic to me

Nah it's because OPs an insufferable bore, not that she's a woman.

I can't work out why my previous post was deleted?

I said YANBU and essentially that Mumsnet is full of alcoholics and smokers and so most of the replies will reflect that? You only have to read a few threads talking about alcohol consumption and what people think is normal, to know this.

Stating facts is hardly offensive. 🤷🏻‍♀️

What's being an alcoholic got to do with this thread?

easilydistracted1 · 24/12/2023 15:32

Your nephew is funny and has entirely proved his point. Those posts are not for you. Stick out of the teenager banter or you'll be restricted or removed

coldcallerbaiter · 24/12/2023 15:35

The reply was mildly funny.

it is not offensive IMO

oh to be a fly on the wall wherever you’re spending christmas day @LifeonMarsnotVenus

TortoisePlayingMinecraft · 24/12/2023 15:38

Just sounds like two cousins have a bit of banter with each other on FB. I think it was a funny retort, it's not an insult to you personally.

Cleanuponaisle1 · 24/12/2023 16:01

Sounds like you and your son offer your opinion a bit too often and you had it coming

PersephonePomegranate23 · 24/12/2023 16:02

Did you never say 'alright mum' or 'alright dad' to a friend who was lecturing you?

I realise I'm very middle aged, but this is just the equivalent.

Why does your son feel the need to be so sanctimonious? I'm sure your nephew is well versed in the dangers of smoking. I'm a non-smoker, but I hate being told what to do!

Goodlard · 24/12/2023 16:03

Peoplehelppeople · 24/12/2023 15:13

YANBU. Smoking is disgusting and I wouldn't hesitate to tell a family member or friend so.

I don't suppose you've many smoking friends........

I hate smoking, but I hate judgemental people more!

PeanutsArentNuts · 24/12/2023 16:07

Hmm, the youngest you could conceivably be is 36... which is about 32 years too old to be pouting at a throwaway 'your mom' joke on social media.

greywolfie · 24/12/2023 14:44

Did you hack him though?
😁

hahahahaha

I was surprised it was that many to be honest 😉

JanglingJack · 24/12/2023 16:26

That's quite funny. He's basically calling your son old and boring 🤣

My son's in his 20s, I've had some of mates on my FB for years. Plenty of ribbing goes on. It's called having a laugh.

I have no idea why this bothers you.

Butchyrestingface · 24/12/2023 16:30

I am very anti-smoking and I have to admit nephews comment just king of irked me a bit.

Can you elaborate on WHAT exactly irks you about the rejoinder? Xmas Confused

SallyWD · 24/12/2023 16:38

You're overreacting. This is how they speak to each other. I wouldn't really expect my son to tell someone off for smoking to be honest.

TinselTitts · 24/12/2023 16:40

Honestly, this is about the 4th weird thread I've opened that an OP hasn't bothered returning to Xmas Confused

Don't be such a drag.

Discomboobulated · 24/12/2023 16:56

Your ds sounds like such a bore.
