Will my garden be ruined?

I live in a house with an old kitchen extension. Extension needs to be removed and rebuilt. My worry is I have a small, mature courtyard garden. Is it a given that it will be ruined? Is there anything I can do to protect side boarders?

Lift the plants into pots and store there for the duration. Definitely safer than leaving them in the ground.

Hmm…surely if they just build onto the footprint of the current extension, and don’t extend into the courtyard, the established plants will be fine? How far are you planning to extend? Yes - if it goes near the courtyard boundary, then as PP suggests then putting plants into pots might be an idea. But I wouldn’t worry unless you are really encroaching on the current courtyard space. Just make sure the builders don’t use the courtyard as a dumping ground for all of their waste, and that they don’t end up smothering the plants. Good luck!
