Ritz crackers

What has happened to them? They used to be lovely and salty and flaky inside. Now they are dense and less salty. Those snack pack ones are even worse. An abomination of a cracker.
Aibu to think they have definitely changed and that childhood favourites should not be messed with?
What's a good alternative?

Just me then. I'll go on a mission next year to find the perfect crackers.

I thought the same, the texture is different and you used to have big grains of salt on them.

BlueberryVelvet · 23/12/2023 19:46

Palm oil and other cheap ingredients.

Daisymae55 · 23/12/2023 19:47

Noooo really? I haven’t had them for ages as I have zero self control but I used to love them 😭

CharlottePimpernel · 23/12/2023 19:50

They're awful now. They taste bitter.

DillyDallyingAllDay · 23/12/2023 19:58

But they've changed very recently- DC who like them occasionally say nooo and they're only 7. When we've had them in a different county they're still good, sad what's been done to them here.

buckingmad · 23/12/2023 20:00

I had some today and didn’t notice a difference

the80sweregreat · 23/12/2023 20:07

Mini cheddars are the same too , a weird after taste that is just horrible.
Most food like this taste disappointing these days

Dotjones · 23/12/2023 20:09

This is what happens when they change the recipes to make things "healthier" with less salt and fat. Removing salt and fat means they need to contain more artificial flavourings and preservatives.

If you compared a bag of Cheddar McCoys from 1992 to one from today they would be completely different crisps. With the 1992 one you could feel the grease flowing down your throat and your arteries clogging up, but they tasted good. (Via the medium of time travel I mean, obviously eating a 31 year old bag of crisps wouldn't be as good as eating a fresh one.)

Their advert is great though, a rare witty and clever ad with talented actors

I love the snack pack ones called ‘Breaks’ or something. So addictive! Taste a bit like Rich Tea biscuits, but with slightly more salt and flakiness😋They are always on my shopping list not tried the big boxes for a couple of years though. Would they taste similar?

jasoncsagar · 31/12/2024 07:18

agree with the other post about the change in taste, bought a box at xmas and I had a couple. The crackers were hard and tasteless like something was missing.
They were not stale , wont bother buying again due to change in flavour and the onward rise in price, the price goes up and contents fall.

the80sweregreat · 31/12/2024 18:01

They taste like the box they came out of these days. Disappointing
