Does anyone still like Michael Jackson?!

That's all really.
I was on a night out and found myself really getting into the groove of MJ!
I'm unashamedly a massive fan!
I don't think we will ever know the whole truth...
Any one else feel the same way or am I part of a dying breed?

I wasn't one anyway but I have noticed he's never really played on the radio anymore.

AndThatWasNY · 22/12/2023 05:29

I just can't anymore..His music either makes me think of his abusive father or that he himself was likely a paedophile.

PermanentTemporary · 22/12/2023 05:30

Like?

I find the whole life story so unbelievably depressing I don't like to think about it (abused child becomes abuser, self harmer and addict, dies of his addiction). I still like some of the songs. Probably wouldn't request them on the radio but I don't mind them still playing them.

Goodlard · 22/12/2023 05:32

There was a thread on her fairly recently where someone was almost leaving their DH, because he would t say he hated MJ!

littleblackcat27 · 22/12/2023 05:33

I still love the early Jackson Five music - can't help it as it's just sooo good. Likewise 'Don't blame it on the Boogie'.

As for all the later music - can take it or leave it. Plus - he did obviously have some major issues going on. Not only the paedo stuff, but also holding a 4 month baby out of a window....

ghlily · 22/12/2023 05:40

love his music! We have to learn to separate the artist from the art, otherwise we won’t be able to enjoy anything.

Oh gosh, I definitely wouldn't take it that far.

It's definitely as if no one wants to admit they are a fan anymore. I'm not convinced that he was guilty of all the charges.
I think it's definitely up to personal choice. I just realised that I'm definitely still a fan..

It was much more than that. DP was insisting MJ wasn't a paedophile - but he also had a history of allowing his daughter into the company of a convicted paedophile because he insisted it was all vicious rumours. He then watched Leaving Neverland and did a 180, and was equally insistent that yes, MJ was a paedophile.

That thread was chock-full of posts from a first time poster (fan? Troll? No idea) who was insisting MJ was innocent and anyone doubting it was thick.

GarlicGiftsAndGlitter · 22/12/2023 05:59

I never did like HIM, but I like and admire his performance skills.

A lot of gifted artists in all media, scientists, philosophers and leaders have been despicable human beings. If I discounted all their work because they were bastards, my world would be poorer.

Toooldtoworry · 22/12/2023 06:09

I like some of his music. I never personally knew him but I suspect the stories were true and for that reason he's not someone I could 'like'.

Snowflakecookie1989 · 22/12/2023 06:27

Loved him up until the Neverland documentary. Can't listen to him anymore. Even if he was innocent, his music is tainted now.

SparklyMularky · 22/12/2023 06:28

I don't generally search for it but I have his greatest hits in my music library and if it comes on I have a singalong in the car. DD likes some of his songs and her and her dad do have a boogie in the house.

R Kelly on the other hand goes straight off!

Sunday12 · 22/12/2023 06:30

I feel the same. I still absolutely love him and don’t think of him as an abuser at all

MrsJamin · 22/12/2023 06:30

I used to love his music but can't listen to it anymore now I know he was a child abuser.

Beefcurtains79 · 22/12/2023 06:31

He was a hideous, devious, groomer and paedophile.
No, I don’t want to listen to his music, it creates a demand.

ChihuahuaMummy · 22/12/2023 06:34

Yep 🙋🏻‍♀️ massive fan here! His music is brilliant, never gets dated.

SilverBranchGoldenPears · 22/12/2023 06:36

He was such a talented man, but horribly damaged.
I used to be a huge fan but now only hear him if he’s on the radio. I do avoid listening at home.
As a pp has said, many many world changing talents were terrible people. I can’t help but think the world has benefited from his existence even if those poor children did not.
And frankly what were the parents thinking??????

ChihuahuaMummy · 22/12/2023 06:38

MrsJamin · 22/12/2023 06:30

There's no proof at all that he was an abuser. He was acquitted due to there being no evidence to suggest he was. Granted, some of his behaviours were odd and not what I would consider the norm but there's nothing to prove he did what he is accused of.

Smugandproud · 22/12/2023 06:41

My dgc, 11, loves MJ music. At some point he’ll learn what the man was.
I don’t listen to Gary Glitter music but I used to love it.

There’s plenty of good music out there and only time will tell whether or not the artists are paedophiles.

Does anyone watch films produced by Weinstein or with Kirk Douglas starring?

NeverDropYourMooncup · 22/12/2023 06:45

If you eliminated all child abusers, domestic abusers and rapists from your music collection, you'd probably be left with Dolly Parton on continuous shuffle.

Flufferblub · 22/12/2023 06:47

Love the work, hate the berk.

I love some of the music, but MJ was always a little strange to me. I suppose he would be given his upbringing. I got into his music as a child in the 90s, but even then, I didn't really like the way he seemed to think he was Jesus or something.

As an adult, I watched the documentaries and he does indeed seem like a pretty disturbed individual to say the least. Certainly a controversial artist.

Flufferblub · 22/12/2023 06:50

@NeverDropYourMooncup I love Dolly! But even she had a couple of questionable moments in her autobiography. Nothing as bad as MJ obviously, but not a great attitude to animal welfare in entertainment, and making light of eating disorders.

merrymelodies · 22/12/2023 06:53

I love his music. I also love the work of Paul Gauguin but he was (also) a pedophile.

Fulshaw · 22/12/2023 06:57

Have you seen Leaving Neverland? All the way through?
