So MY ds comes round tonight, just before he was going he wanted to use the loo
He ran up the stairs (didn’t need to rush)
came down and went

so when I go to sit down dp says
when he comes round again tell him not to run up the stairs there going to get worse ( a couple of them creak)
I looked at him and said. Don’t be ridiculous
He then goes on to say do you think it’s normal for a 35 yr old to run up the stairs
I said well I do, to which he then says
yes but your not 12 st

is he nick picking or am I getting this wrong ?

He just sounds like he's being a bit of a Victor Meldrew. Or is it the 12st comment?

DrSoos · 22/12/2023 00:29

I think he's spoiling for a fight, either with you, your son or both of you.
Don't let him get away with it. There are plenty of ways to hurt a guy without leaving bruises. If you haven't got a gun to hold to his head, you might wanna consider going out till late and coming home smelling of other men, like an alley cat that's been snake-hunting among the trash cans.
That'll put a stop to him whining about the damned stairs.

BitOutOfPractice · 22/12/2023 00:32

He wants to police the speed people go up stairs because of wear and tear to the stairs?

really?

mmm he sounds HOT

🙄

DP needs to tell DS since he's the one who thinks it's a problem. Man to man. Or do you have to do everything in that house?

Firefly2009 · 22/12/2023 00:44

Um, this is weird.

scoobysnaxx · 22/12/2023 00:52

What a weird interaction.

Definitely a Victor Meldew in the making.

Retirement is going to be fun..

So not ds dad?

How do they get on? Is this typical behaviour for your dh? What's his issue the running or your sons weight?

WhichEllie · 22/12/2023 02:53

Your son is 35 years old? I’d have already told him not to run up the stairs just because I’d find a grown man thundering up them very annoying.

Firefly2009 · 22/12/2023 03:31

I missed the part that your son is 35 years old.

Tell us the real story....Your DP and DS don't get on. This isn't about stairs, right?

Emma8888 · 22/12/2023 04:02

I mean yes, logically increased force caused by running (especially with increased weight) will degrade stairs faster than lightly walking up them. Would I make an issue out of it, no, but he isn't wrong in the facts.

JamieKnows · 22/12/2023 09:31

He shouldn't pick on Nick, not at Christmas

10HailMarys · 22/12/2023 09:35

Your DP sounds like the worst kind of pernickity little twat. I bet when he was at school he used to put his hand up and remind the teacher to set homework.
