I bought a coat for ds for Christmas and decided on another I briefly took the jacket out of the packaging then repacked and returned it but have had a message today saying refund rejected as its been worn and is in a unsuitable condition now I know shops don't even have to refund if you simply change your mind but the jacket was barely touched.
What would you do in this situation.

If you took the tags off its reasonable of them to assume it had been worn.

I knew this would be ASOS before you said it was them.

I bought a dress from them last year, sent it back unworn or even taken out the package 7 days later as the event I had bought it for was cancelled. They rejected my refund as I’d returned it outside the return window apparently (It was a week after purchase!)

I did a claim with my card company and got the money back that way.

Asos also rejected a return from DD with the same reason. She hadn't worn it at all. I suspect that the people assessing the returns are expected to reject a certain number or something like that as there was no way it looked as if it had been worn. She won't buy anything from them again. Scammers.

DH returned something to ASOS. They agreed the refund, but then didn’t actually make the refund. He had to chase them over and over for it.

You should be covered by distance selling regulations, which include the right to cancel within 14 days and obtain a refund under certain conditions. https://www.gov.uk/online-and-distance-selling-for-businesses However, if that is not applicable then ask your credit card provider to do chargeback. Provide them with copies of any correspondence between parties.

I've heard Selfridges have been doing this!
