Breakfast
Pret frozen croissants
Cinnamon rolls
Coffee
Bucks Fizz

Houer D'oeuvres
Pigs in blanket (American style)
Chorizo and Scallops
Salmon and Cod Roe Blinis
Garlic Prawns
Caeser Salad skewer

Main Meal
Stuffed Chicken Joint
Roast Potatoes
Mash
Dauphinoise Potatoes
Honey Carrots
Bacon and Broccoli
Parsnips
Brussel Sprouts
Cabbage
Pigs in blanket
Stuffing balls
Yorkshire pudding
Onion Gravy
Plain Gravy

Dessert
Sticky Toffee Pudding and Ice cream
Xmas Pudding
Yule Log
Cheese Platter
Mince Pies

Dinner
Leftovers

Drinks
Champagne
Wine
Bucks Fizz
Spicy Margharitas

Someone in the group is insisting on a starter but they have agreed to taking responsibility. TBC.

This will all be homemade (apart from pastries in morning and ice cream) so it’s a lot of work - 2 main people doing it. A third person will likely pitch in a fair amount.

Is it a normal amount of food? First year hosting but any less would not be what my family is used to. But I’m doing a lot more homemade stuff whereas in previous years some of the snack stuff and desserts would be M and S.

First pudding down! Had help from mum with rolling but very easy! Thanks Nigella. Fun to make until the very end when the icing sugar snow effect was ruined by a sieve with seemingly massive holes!

Not bad as a first attempt imo. May redo “snow”

Edited

That looks amazing!

Hoiz · 23/12/2023 18:35

@Newuser75 thank you!

Expected it to be much more fiddly. Recommend the Nigella recipe to anyone who wants to impress with really minimal effort

I’ve just been told by my husband that nobody expects more than meat, some roast spuds, a bowl of carrots and some
peas and sweetcorn.
I totally disagree (although mostmof
our guests are a bit like boring with food tbh) and this is why I put so muchnptessure
on on myself to make it a special feast. Everyone else round the yabel
just treats it
like any other day. 🤬

Sweetcorn on Christmas dinner is an atrocity

Nannyfannybanny · 24/12/2023 08:29

Unless you are religious,it IS just another day, Sunday roast. You can get Christmas pudding (and hot cross buns) all year.

madeinmanc · 24/12/2023 09:17

I've never heard of either sweetcorn or peas being served for Christmas dinner.

Nannyfannybanny · 24/12/2023 14:09

Not everyone likes sprouts and parsnips, most kids don't.

BIossomtoes · 24/12/2023 14:23

I don’t think OP’s entertaining any kids.

You may find the icing sugar 'dissolves' overnight. I'd do it just before you present/serve tomorrow.

I have definitely over-catered for our Christmas dinner, but even I wouldn’t consider peas or sweetcorn to be part of the traditional roast. Especially not sweetcorn!

FreshWinterMorning · 24/12/2023 21:31

Dinner - leftovers! 😂

Also, what a batshit amount of food for 5. Good grief. Do you even need to ask?

Gravelshoveling · 25/12/2023 09:11

Surely there are no rules and you can serve what you like ?
I’ve served both and it all got eaten

purplehair1 · 26/12/2023 23:03

3 types of potatoes? I know I’ve missed the boat and it’s already happened - but pigs in blanket twice? And surely hors d’ oeuvres are starters and you don’t need another? It’s 11pm on Boxing Day and I’m suddenly really peckish…

Hoiz · 27/12/2023 20:30

I mean the mash was a tiny amount - half a cereal bowl. I had maybe a table spoon. The quantities were small per dish. More for variety sake. Had a lovely meal, my sister almost entirely took over and preferred I “sit down and relax”. Very lovely of her. I kept everyone topped up. Offered help of course.

I only really did the puddings which were beautiful.

Looks lovely well done

Wateroverwine · 27/12/2023 21:41

Hope you enjoyed your dinner but yes that's a lot did you all manage?

Hoiz · 27/12/2023 21:54

@Carol52 thank you, can’t really take credit for what is shown. I handled puddings and mince pies which just tasted of shortbread really (not complaining)

@Wateroverwine only 30% of what was
put on the table was eaten at the Xmas meal. But hardly anything is left except for dauphinoise after my mum made her “bung it” pie on Boxing Day.
