For thinking that it makes no sense to dress well to be at home?

First of all, sorry for the mistakes, English is not my first language.I been inspired by a previous thread

I have a 6 month old baby and since my last weeks of pregnancy I spend the day and night in my pajamas. On such occasions, when I go with dp or friends to a special place I like wearing makeup and show off a good outfit, but as soon as I get home I put on my pajamas again 🤣
In my daily routines going outside with dc I simply wear sports clothes, but that's the only thing I can tolerate to wear at home.

A friend told me that this can affect your mood, is that true?

How do you all do it to look good at home and feel comfortable?

Can't see myself being ready before dp comes back work 🤣 He doesn't seem to care if I wear makeup or not, although he really appreciate a good outfit. I've a good variety of pajamas that are pretty but not that sexy, It's cold!

I own multiple sets of pyjamas and if I’m at home all day I shower and put a clean pair on. I don’t feel slobby, I'm still productive and I’m happy to answer the door in them. Comfort wins!
My DH doesn’t do pyjamas but is in track suits when he’s home. None of us have cheated. It’s sad that some people still believe men cheat because a woman “hasn’t made the effort”, how ridiculous.

PartingGift · 29/12/2023 22:29

It would affect my mood to stay in my pyjamas all day. I think it would also affect my sleep. Pyjamas are for sleeping in.

If I'm having a lazy day at home, I shower and put on a loungewear set or an oversized sweatshirt and fleece lined leggings. Clothes that I wouldn't wear outside the house, but are for daytime.

FluffyFanny · 29/12/2023 22:31

I do think wearing pyjamas and not not doing hair or makeup changes your mindset for the day. Wearing PJs says time for sleeping, relaxing etc. Being alone and not seeing anyone.

I like to distinguish night from day otherwise i wouldn't' have the motivation to get things done. Hate cooking or cleaning in PJs!

I like to get a shower, do hair and put a little makeup on every morning, even if I'm just at home. I also like to be dressed in something I am able to go outside in, even if i end up staying in. A sweatshirt and leggings or joggers makes me feel more prepared for any eventuality- popping out to the shops, answering the door, putting the bins out, sweeping the drive, inviting unexpected callers or neighbours in for a cuppa.

Lovetosleep1 · 29/12/2023 22:52

I get dressed properly to go to work but the rest of the time I'm in leggings and a T-shirt. I'd happily stay in pajamas all day but I have dogs and horses so I'm never at home. I actually think a day at home in pajamas would be great for my mental health.
I'd also like to say I'm always clean when at home but it isn't true. I'm currently lay on the couch in a pair of jodhpurs and a sweatshirt that I wore to the farm tonight.
Sometimes I think I miss looking nice on a weekend but I just can't be bothered getting changed. I'm basically a lazy cow.

UsingChangeofName · 29/12/2023 23:06

I haven't voted, as your title question is quite different from what you have asked in your OP.

I would be dressing casually to stay at home - in any circumstances, not just 6 months after giving birth - but I wouldn't stay in PJs.
I do think, unless you are ill, or recovering from an operation, then it is important to get washed and dressed when you get up for the day. It is important to differentiate between clothes to wear to bed and when you are up.
I also think it odd to be in PJs to go out to the bins, or to answer the door to people.

So, YANBU to think you don't need to "dress well"
but
YABU to think it is okay to live in PJs, IMO.

This is why men have affairs

I am always presentable at home, even when I’m just chilling out - this didn’t stop my first husband having an affair

Lovetosleep1 · 29/12/2023 23:56

@Flo22 that's equal parts ridiculous and terrifying. I hope to god you're just being a wind up and don't seriously believe that shit.

I always get up, shower, hair, full make up, and proper clothes. It just makes me feel ready and in control I guess?

If I was in jammies or whatever I think my mood would dip.

‘full make up’ why?

BarelyCoping123 · 30/12/2023 00:51

I would get depressed if i just wore pyjamas at home, but i dont dress up - more like sports/leisure clothes, such as leggings and sweatshirts

notacooldad · 30/12/2023 00:57

A friend told me that this can affect your mood, is that true?
I think it can be the other way round.
If you have low mood, you can get into the habit of not getting dressed or not washing properly. The less you do, the more your mood can dip and it becomes a circle.
However, if you are getting up, washed and facing the day changing into clean clothes is fine , even if they are pjs
If I'm pottering at home I usually put a pair of joggers and a sweatshirt on.

ithinkthatmaybeimdreaming · 30/12/2023 01:08

I'm amazed at the number of people who obviously stay at home for days on end! There is very rarely a day when I don't go out for one reason or another, I go walking every day, sometimes several times, and I go out to shops, or a cafe, several times a week. If I wore pjs all day I would be forever changing out of them to go somewhere. I can't imagine staying at home all day Confused

MistletoeandJd · 30/12/2023 01:18

I'm split on this we have 5 dcs if I'm not leaving the house I absolutely love to wear pyjamas or sports wear BUT it definitely does effect my productivity I just feel sluggish and lazy as opposed to if I just do even a bit of make up and decent clothes, if I do proper nice clothes ams make up I do genuinely blast through everything much easier but it's the initial motivation and time to get that pretty little boost. Please know I'm not calling anyone that wants to chill lazy or sluggish it's just how it effects me.

RobertaFirmino · 30/12/2023 02:05

I have always had trouble sleeping and it helps me to have specified day and night wear. Getting changed into my jamas is part of winding down for the night. As for the daytime, I always wear something presentable. I live just off a high street so even just popping out for milk means going to a busy thoroughfare full of shoppers and I usually see someone I know.

THEDEACON · 30/12/2023 02:31

Some people get down if they don't get dressed and not getting out of PJ's can be an indicator of depression Personally I'm happy to be in PJ's if I'm not going out and I'm showered hair washed etc daily

I thought this too! My mental health would be shot if I left the house so infrequently!

Catza · 30/12/2023 10:47

I am currently in my PJs and I already hate my life. I don't know how people tolerate it but to each their own, I guess.
I have comfy house clothes and I pretty much live in my athletic clothes (but I do also go to the gym 5 times a week so feel justified in this). House clothes include polo neck shirts and a thermal vest coupled with cotton/linen trousers. Shorts and a t-shirt in summer.

funinthesun19 · 30/12/2023 10:52

I like to wear lounge wear type clothing around the house. So not pyjamas but loose comfy clothes. Tracksuit bottoms and a T-shirt/hoody is perfect. 👍🏻

Men stray if women don't look good. Or go to prostitutes

Bullshit.

First of all NAMALT... Which I hate bit people on MN seem to like disclaimers..

Men that cheat will cheat because they get the opportunity and take it. Decent and loyal men may get similar opportunity but say no.

If it had ANYTHING TO DO WITH WHAT THEIR PARTNER LOOKED LIKE OR WORE then why have some of the most beautiful women in the world been cheated on?

Same here, and I always shower/wash hair, wear a bit of make up and a quick spray of perfume. So I am comfortable but perfectly presentable

I've not left my house since I returned home on Christmas night from a family meal.
I am actually loving it! I'm normally rushing around, busy at work, knacked from doing sleep over shifts.I am normally out walking on the fells on my days off. We had planned to go away between Christmas and New Year but cancelled due to the weather.
However it has been lovely staying in and not having my life at 100mph! It's been a nice reminder to make sure i have slow days and not have my life planned to the last minute. I've enjoyed watching films on BFI,cooking, making cocktails etc.
I am planning more stay at home days in the future.
However it's important to get the balance right and not to permanently become reclusive!

Coffeeismyfriend1 · 30/12/2023 11:32

I literally see no point in adding to my washing pile for no reason, it’s big enough already! If annoys me when my parents FaceTime on a Saturday and say to DS ‘why are still in pjs?’ Because we haven’t been anywhere and I'm not fighting to get him dressed for no reason! He’s sat and played with Lego/minecraft etc all day! He can have clean pjs at bedtime which is less washing than a full set of clothing!

NosinaBook · 30/12/2023 12:15

I don't have a baby, in fact my youngest has just turned 21 but I am always in pyjamas when I'm at home, or leggings, tshirt and cardigan. I take my work clothes off (and bra) as soon as I'm in the door. I'm a messy cleaner so half of my at home clothes have bleach marks! I don't care. If I had visitors planned I might do jeans and a top but tbh all my family and friends know me that well that if they turn up and I'm dressed properly they ask where I'm going! 😄 I have a dog that loves to cosy right next to me, I don't want my good clothes getting worn out when I'm just at home anyway. You do whatever you're comfortable with!

KK05 · 30/12/2023 12:20

I don’t feel myself if I’ve not showered and changed.

if I have no plans for the day then comfy leggings and sweatshirt or lounge wear but if I’m going out then I’ll make more of an effort.

most days when not working it’s what I can wear to walk the dog in public that’s comfy to sit around in at home. Even on work days I’m in scrubs and crocs (so just pjs for work).

i do see an improvement in my mood when I’m dressed and showered though.

only bother with make up if I’m actually leaving the house and heading to shops etc not for a dog walk. even then it’s usually tinted moisturiser and mascara. Full face for special days/nights though.

I do take care of myself though like to have nice nails and use skin care etc. hairs always clean and tidy.

each to their own though and what works for them.

Same 😊 I like to feel comfortable but also like to actually feel good about myself too. Life is so stressful at times and it takes its toll on the way I look I.e I look completely exhausted. 😴
So pick me ups are important to me personally to keep me feeling brighter, and to help keep me going and keep me motivated. Whether that’s a nice tracksuit to feel comfortable in at home, a bit of makeup, clean hair instead of a greasy unbrushed bun, my favourite perfume, a daily shower, etc..

I’ve been there where I’ve not got dressed and not brushed my hair, not put on a smidge of makeup etc.. And while some women would say it’s empowering to feel like they don’t have to get dressed and wear makeup, I just end up feeling like shit.

Hmcs · 30/12/2023 12:36

When I had my first baby it was important for me to get showered and dressed every day

if I didn’t I would have felt worse I think
