I’ve had an epiphany about how I’m raising my children. I’m worried I’m more violet than Eileen. How can I strike a good balance between the mother of pearl fish knives and eating chips out of paper?

I imagine most folk will, like me, wonder what on earth you're on about

Less drugs for you

PenelopeRidesAgain · 16/12/2023 04:25

One of my favourite books!

Chilesstanton · 16/12/2023 04:46

ugh violet was the worst!

Downandout43 · 16/12/2023 05:46

I might reread this so I can comment! I loved it but have forgotten the detail

maras2 · 16/12/2023 05:50

I want to be Aisling. not Elizabeth.

AgentProvocateur · 16/12/2023 05:50

I read that decades ago, so I can’t remember the details. I do remember that I loved it.

Theblackdogagain · 16/12/2023 05:51

This is such a good analogy! I think I'm somewhere in the middle.

RedSuedePump · 16/12/2023 07:16

think i’m due a reread

Hoglet70 · 16/12/2023 07:18

I love this book! Elizabeth was such a drip though. Team Aisling all the way. Also Team Eileen.

Monicaaa · 16/12/2023 07:31

Argh! Thought you were talking about a film/drama with Timothy Spall from many years ago, I really want to rewatch, but it appears to have vanished completely.
It was beautiful.
Right off to Google the book.

Amibeingadick · 16/12/2023 08:43

Eileen is the best for sure but I do worry sometimes when I’m making my kids do things properly there’s a bit less joy and I’m getting it wrong
