It's a neighbour one

Live in a block of flats where there is two of us on the top floor. Separate flats next door to each other. My new neighbour is SO loud with her door. They are fire doors but I've been here 3 years and I'm always mindful of not letting the door just slam shut and instead holding the handle to let is close quietly because if you leave it to just shut then it slams closed and is very loud. She does this multiple times a day, tonight it's gone midnight, and then the way she locks her door is so loud, she seems to take forever to lock it and the whole thing is just getting on my nerves. She also has her TV so loud I can hear it through the wall (never heard the previous two neighbours) and she is doing DIY sometimes late at night. 10pm drilling the other night. I'd like to say something but don't want to come across as "that neighbour" WWYD?

I don’t know about mentioning the slamming doors . As a door slammer myself I don’t notice that I am doing it. But 100% mention the drilling, in a really nice way: hey do you mind not drilling after 9pm ? It’s waking me/my dog / my child. There is probably rules against it in your lease.

I used to live in an apartment and it can get tricky. You could write her a note to say she probably doesn't realise but the doors are really loud when they close.

Well you obviously do know it's an issue so why not just take care closing doors every time you go through one? 🙄
OP YANBU. I'd actually try slamming the fire door yourself for a day and see if it makes her reflect on her own behaviour. Not a lot you can do about her locking her door, that sounds like very bad sound insulation. The TV thing is also not ok.

@mollyfolk if you know you're a door slammer than how do you not know you're doing it?

I had a problem doing slammer. Is there any way you can discreetly squirt WD40 in the mechanism to make it close more quietly? I managed to do it with a fire door and it worked.

Nuke them from orbit, it's the only way to be sure.

OnionOnionH · 16/12/2023 15:13

Next time you see say ‘I always try to be careful shutting this door, walls are paper thin. It’s so loud etc.. ‘ and or words to that effect, while demonstrating how you do it.
Or just tell her directly to stop letting it slam shut, it’s very loud.
Sometimes people just aren’t aware and need telling.

People tell me 🙈not strangers - my family are like why are you slamming the door

Xmasdread22 · 22/12/2023 17:40

@mollyfolk why don't you stop doing it then?
