To moan about this cabbage?

Just had this lovely cabbage delivered by the Co-op. Completely eaten up, covered in faeces with a lovely plump (alive) caterpillar. I fully respect the fact that bugs get into vegetables occasionally and I never normally care but this is just 🤢

(Sorry not helpful I know OP)

Yuck

I always find it reassuring that I'm buying food that hasn't been bathed in pesticides but I do find thus, or more usually, a cauli full of eggs, so disappointing when I'm hungry and trying to get dinner made

CrunchyCarrot · 15/12/2023 23:15

But it's organic right? That's why the bugs are eating it.

Sorry OP, that's not good at all! Are you going to save the caterpillar and see what it turns into?

Concernz · 15/12/2023 23:19

@CrunchyCarrot Oh no, I totally should have done that! I just gently extracted him and put him outside.

My rabbits are happily enjoying the cabbage stump so it’s not gone to waste completely.

I had an organic box of stuff delivered once and came home after needing out for a few hours. The whole flipping kitchen was covered in them! They must have been having a party in the cabbage. The kids were enthralled. Me, not so much!

Concernz · 15/12/2023 23:23

@surlycurly That sounds incredibly unpleasant! I’m lucky I received just the one. Mind you, as a kid I would have been just as delighted as your kids in that situation.

It's Colin!
Sorry OP, it's a shame - I know you paid for this cabbage with all intentions of cooking and enjoying it (so be it your rabbits did)

But this thread made me smile 🤗

Ps - thank you for not killing it / binning him.

I bet he's a full and satisfied caterpillar though either way 😊

I figured out what type he is. Large White Butterfly, Pieris brassicae aka the cabbage butterfly! 🦋 Kinda wish I kept him now 😅

@MyBrownEyedHandsomeBoy Apparently it’s Charlie the caterpillar at the co-op. He did look very plump indeed when I was evicting him. Probably had the time of his life living in there..
