To be worried about weight loss?

Since the end of October I have lost 7.1lbs. I haven't tried to. Started weighing myself because I noticed my trousers were a bit loose so may have lost more. Haven't changed my diet or exercise. Don't do much exercise and have a desk job WFH. AIBU to be concerned about this? I've always struggled to lose weight especially since kids but it seems to have just fallen off!

Don’t be worried but do go to GP and discuss unintentional weight loss. Maybe keep a good diary or something like MyFitnessPal app just to see as a small change (like no takeaway coffees due to money being tight or no booze) could make a difference without being meant. And if you’ve got a decent bit to lose then half a stone isn’t too much…

Unexplained weight loss should always be looked into. I second seeing your GP.

My BMI is now 25.5 so I'm only just overweight, it has just thrown me off a bit because if anything I've been doing less exercise than usual and eating the same. Just very unusual for me!

How are feeling generally? I lost a lot of weight without trying but was feeling dreadful, turned out I was diabetic.

SmileyClare · 15/12/2023 09:17

Could be diabetes, particularly as you are overweight and don’t exercise? ask for bloods tests.

SmileyClare · 15/12/2023 09:18

Sorry @Harrriet cross post!

I feel absolutely fine thankfully but will try and make an appt with my GP

Unlikely to be diabetes then thankfully. Do mention to the receptionist that your losing weight without trying, you should get checked out sooner rather than later.

@SmileyClare Great minds think alike!

Definitely make that appointment op.

Diabetes can go undetected so it’s worth checking out to avoid it damaging your organs, or even your eyesight.

Its tempting to think Wahay I’ve lost weight! and I feel ok but it can be a red flag.
Gps take sudden unexplained weight loss seriously so you won’t be wasting anyone’s time x

If you've been doing less exercise than usual, it might be because your muscles are holding less glucose in anticipation of exercise. But I agree with previous posters, see your GP (I also lost a lot of weight without trying and it was type 1 diabetes).

I would see it as a big red flag based on family history. Definitely worth a check with GP sooner rather than later.
