To cry? Cat pissed on the bed while I was sleeping!

Woke up and thought I'd wet myself for a second - bed was wet right through! Put the light on and realised my boy cat has pissed in the bed. It's gone right through the duvet to the sheets and mattress protecter.

I feel like utter crap with some sort of bug and all I want to do is cry! Got some bedding in now, will get me in the shower shortly too (because I was wet too!)!

I'm totally fed up with him doing it - this is the third time now! 🙁🙁

Poor you. Is it out of character? Hiw old is he? There'll be a reason for it.
I'd go and get him checked. Diabetes????

Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky · 15/12/2023 08:13

Has he got anything stressing him? When we have strays around / coming in one of my cat pews on any clothes left in the floor and have also been known to poo on the sofa......

Haydenn · 15/12/2023 08:13

If your cat is regularly doing this you need to keep it out of the bedroom. I’d be tempted for a vet check if it is out of character. Otherwise I’d keep it in a hard floored room with minimal furniture and a litter tray at night

sorry that you’re feeling rough.

Ploctopus · 15/12/2023 08:13

YANBU, what a misery ☹️

the difficulty with cats is that once they’ve peed somewhere once they will keep peeing there because you can’t really get rid of the ammonia smell (even if you can’t smell it yourself, your cat can) and they think it’s their loo forever. You might need to start shutting him out of the bedroom.

it might also be worth taking him to the vet for a checkup - any unusual or new toileting behaviour can be a sign that something is up with their health.

Hope you feel better soon ♥️

Muchof · 15/12/2023 08:13

You need to take your cat to the vets because that is highly unusual cat behaviour.

Benibidibici · 15/12/2023 08:16

How old is your cat? Is he spayed/neutered?

Agree you need to bin the bedding, the smell is impossible to shift & he'll keep doing it.

QuestionableMouse · 15/12/2023 08:16

He was checked for his pre neuter appointment last week and is 100% healthy - he's currently running about like a mad thing! He's 9 months old and the vet has no concerns about his health!

It's because the litter tray isn't perfectly clean I think - it's wet in one corner and has a poo in it! I normally scoop it daily but I basically went to bed at 6pm last night because I feel so utterly crap!

OP posts:
QuestionableMouse · 15/12/2023 08:19

I can't afford to bin the bedding! The mattress topper/protector was £40 alone, let alone the sheets, duvet cover and duvet! Probs £100 of bedding and I cannot afford to replace it!

It's in the washer soaking with some simple solution. 🙁

My male cat can do this when he is stressed by other cats in the neighbourhood. You can get an enzymatic cleaner that will break down the smell that might be worth getting although mine has never done it in the same place twice and it is definitely related to stress for him.

KinS24 · 15/12/2023 08:24

He is late for neutering. He’s a full grown man cat now at 9 months! The neutering should change his behaviour.

StBrides · 15/12/2023 08:26

You need at least one more litter tray for him

Beamur · 15/12/2023 08:30

My cat pees in the laundry basket if the litter tray isn't up to scratch.
However grotty you might feel, it's quicker to clean the litter tray than have to launder all your bedding!
You have found this out the hard way (three times) that your cat is very clean in his toileting habits. A second litter tray or more frequent cleaning should sort it out.
If not, you might have to shut him out of bedrooms.

grass67 · 15/12/2023 08:33

Self cleaning cat toilet? expensive, but a very long term solution for a young cat. So a good investment.

user1471427958 · 15/12/2023 08:37

Poor things, not nice for either of you! I'm sure once you've soaked the bedding in enzyme solution and given it a hot wash it'll be okay. Can you get a second litter tray for your boy? Just as an emergency back up, even a small one you could tuck e.g. in a corner in the bathroom?

Sarvanga38 · 15/12/2023 08:39

God, I hope that neutering appointment is soon, or things are going to get a whole lot worse! 😆Why wasn't he done earlier?

Cats are not like dogs - unneutered ones really do not make for easy pets as soon as they are mature.

Because there's just been no appointments 🙁

Honestly I've been trying to get him in for weeks but there's just nothing available!

I do have two trays but had closed the kitchen door last night so the other one was unavailable to him!

I also think that he's not keen on the litter I have atm - it's clay and was a sub on my grocery shop rather than the paper I normally use!

NotTerfNorCis · 15/12/2023 08:53

Probably best not to allow him in the bedroom.

SwordToFlamethrower · 15/12/2023 09:01

Might have an infection. Go to vets asap

jemenfous37 · 15/12/2023 09:02

Why are you letting your cat into your bedroom?

RantyAnty · 15/12/2023 09:02

Hopefully he can get a vet appointment to be neutered soon.

I tend not to let my cat sleep in the bedroom as she'll wake me up at 2.30am. like early this morning I woke up to her wiping her snotty nose on my mouth and licking it while purring loudly and her sharp claws kneading my neck. Grin

QuestionableMouse · 15/12/2023 09:05

He cries and digs at the carpet if I don't let him in! He gets really upset if there's a door closed between us! (unlike my older cat who couldn't care less!)

I have 2 cats. One is fine, the other is extremely fussy about the litter. Hence she had a habit of peeing on the sofa if I either didn't clean the litter in time or the level of litter wasn't high enough. I got a cheap waterproof blanket to throw on the sofa from amazon. That way I can just chuck it in the washing machine if she does mess up. Maybe get one to go over your bed?

LK2610 · 15/12/2023 09:17

I’d also recommend keeping bedroom door closed. My cat used to cry but got used to it in the bed. I got him a cosy bed and put it on the sofa, and now that’s his safe space at night.

nepthysrising · 15/12/2023 09:17

This might be too late for you now, as you already have it soaking. But in case there's a next time (hope not!!).There's a service called Laundry Heap that will collect from your door, wash and dry, and deliver back in a few days. We used it all the time when we were nursing a dying relative at home for several months, and as you can imagine, there was sooooo much laundry!
It's a good service, and not prohibitively expensive. You might also find you have local companies offering the same.
I'm so sorry this happened to you, it's bad enough being in bed ill, without all this extra mess. Get well soon 💐
