Sorry, posting here for traffic. My dog has just eaten a Bassett multivitamin 7-11. Will he be ok or do I need to call out of hours vet?

My DD dropped it & he swooped in😱

Could you phone the vets for some over the phone advice?
Are there sweeteners in the vitamins?

Whoopitywhoops · 14/12/2023 18:59

If it's got vitamin d in get them to a vets asap

What type of dog is he?

Ours is a large walking dustbin so I'd take a watch and wait approach, he's not eaten anything yet touch wood that's required a vet trip. However, if yours is a small lad who doesn't tend to eat stuff he's not supposed to I can see why you'd worry more.

I’ve rang the vets & she asked me about vit D & Xylitol so I told her it has 5ug Vit D & matltitol syrup sorbitol & sucralose & she’s going to check & ring me back :(

He’s a Shih Tzu

Every single Christmas it’s something. He’s a small dog.

He has his yumove at the same time as my DD has hers so as she dropped hers he thought it was his!

My dog ate a whole large tub of strawberry nesquik once, he was absolutely fine. I'm sure 1 vitamin won't hurt him. Just keep an eye on him.

My dog ate a whole packet of contraceptive pills once. That was an interesting conversation to have with the vet. Hope your dog is ok, sure all will be fine.

Pet insurance with 24/7 video vet service included is a godsend in this kind of scenario. Worth checking what cover you have. I’m sure he’ll be ok.

To be honest if he's a regular for nabbing shit he shouldn't have I probably wouldn't worry as much. I do empathise though, if we took our boy to the vets everytime he ate something he shouldn't we'd practically live there. He's rapidly improving with age but sometimes he forgets himself. 🤣

I'd definitely do his tablet in a different room from your DD from now on through just to mitigate a repeat situation. 😊

My dog ate a WHOLE PACK of menopace in one sitting last year.
absolutely fine. But she is half Labrador.

Thank you all! Vet rang me back & said the Vit D level is fine & the sweeteners aren’t the worrying but one & that he might have a dicky stomach!
