AIBU to think Die Hard is a Christmas movie, and to have enjoyed watching it for the umpteenth time?

DH was out last night, so I watched one of my favourite Christmas movies, Die Hard. I've always liked this film, and consider it to be a Christmas film so usually try to watch it during the run up to Christmas.

DH arrived home before it finished, and couldn't believe I was watching it again. He also says it is not a Christmas movie.

AIBU to enjoy watching this film once a year, and to think it definitely is a Christmas movie?

It is a Christmas film. YANBU. Although Bruce Willis says it's NOT a christmas film!!

IsabelleSE19 · 14/12/2023 12:57

It definitely is, and I'm hoping to squeeze in a rewatch before Christmas. Saw most of Die Hard 2 yesterday as it was on TV, and that is also a Christmas movie!

donquixotedelamancha · 14/12/2023 13:00

It's the greatest Christmas film of all time and anyone who says otherwise is a grinch.

SpudleyLass · 14/12/2023 13:01

Bruce Willis sneaks around a tower a lot night, avoiding Alan Rickman.

It's a Harry Potter movie!

Aquamarine1029 · 14/12/2023 13:03

Love the movie, I personally don't consider it a Christmas film.

TidyDancer · 14/12/2023 13:06

It's definitely a Christmas film and it's the best!

Set at a Christmas party, John is only there to spend Christmas with his family. He saves the day because of Christmas wrapping paper and tape.

Now I have a machine gun, ho-ho-ho.

Your DH is wrong.

There are two kinds of people. Those who think that Die Hard is a Christmas movies, and those who are wrong.

Waspie · 14/12/2023 13:09

Definitely a Christmas film. But one which can be enjoyed any time of the year.

100%

CMOTDibbler · 14/12/2023 13:16

Yes, absolutely. As is Die Hard 2

Cotswoldbee · 14/12/2023 13:27

DH1&2 are Christmas films (DH3 is not).
Love watching 1&2 in the run up to Christmas but as I have them on DVD I get to see the unedited versions instead of the ones which have been chopped around to appeal to modern audiences.
Likewise Love Actually and many other films & series from a few years ago, watching the DVD gives you the whole experience knowing you are not missing bits which are now deemed un-PC.

YABU for starting up this tired old debate again

LikeTheMorningDew · 14/12/2023 13:52

Course it is.

And Die Hard 2 is the only other good Christmas film.

LoudestRoar · 14/12/2023 13:53

It's definitely a Christmas movie. I watch it when I wrap presents! It's my annual tradition

Sauvblanctime · 14/12/2023 13:53

It is a Xmas film

the writers confirmed it

Wakemeuuuup · 14/12/2023 13:55

Definitely a Christmas film

RenegadeKeeblerElf · 14/12/2023 13:56

This feels like the right thread to share a photo of my advent calendar 😁 It is totally a Christmas movie, and we will be watching it on the 23rd, followed by Die Hard 2 on Christmas Eve!

DottyLottieLou · 14/12/2023 14:09

I am the 3rd kind of person and have never watched it, so don't know.

CarolinaInTheMorning · 14/12/2023 14:17

It's definitely a Christmas movie and my favorite.

gocompare · 14/12/2023 14:19

I've never seen any of them! Are they good?

DisforDarkChocolate · 14/12/2023 14:20

I'm off to watch it at our local cinema on the 22nd. We usually see It's a Wonderful Life but that was fully booked. I will still feel festive after Die Hard but in a very different way.

EvilLynz26 · 14/12/2023 14:37

It's not Christmas in our house until Hans has fallen off the Nakatomi Plaza.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 14/12/2023 14:40

Well, we usually watch Bleak House, and I’m not sure most people would regard that as festive! 😳 whatever you enjoy….
