I dont often park in them but do occasionally. Last time was in Asda and the occupants of the car next to me also in Parent and Child laughted when they saw a teenager with me as they only had a teenager with them so we laughted back. So what age should I stop using these spaces? Age of child not me obviously

PABLOP · 14/03/2008 23:35

No YANBU Hopeys, The point of the space being wider is for mums to be able to get car seats/prams in and out.
Some people are selfish.
abouteve.

does it really matter??

NorthernLurker · 14/03/2008 23:46

Hopey has a baby as well though don't you - the girl in your name in fact

sophiebbb · 14/03/2008 23:47

Should be for mums with kids who have prams/pushchairs to bundle in and out of the car - not for older kids who can hop in and out easily. I am 34 weeks pregnant with an 18 month old and really need these spaces at the moment......

OMG . Steal their car. Or chuck white paint over it. It's the only language people like that understand.

BrothelSprouts · 14/03/2008 23:59

YABU to be incensed by it.
There are far more important things in the world to become incensed about.

Usborne · 15/03/2008 01:16

In my local town centre, old age pensioners regularly park in the mother and baby spaces. I think it's cos they're nearer to the shops!! They also park really close to the doors so I can't open it far enough to get my dd in. Why?????!!!!! One old fella told me I should be grateful to him cos he was a war hero! WTF!!! So's my husband and he's not old!!

needmorecoffee · 15/03/2008 07:21

Now now TC, advocating revenge and violence will bring out the tutters....

Remotew · 15/03/2008 16:20

Gawd, I feel like a right selfish bitch now. It's not often I park in them. Only now and again when technically I have a child with me. Perhaps they should make it clear what the age limit is. I used them years ago without prams, pushchairs to make sure the kids didnt slam the door into the next car.

I heard a mate of mine parked in one with his son (35)!!

I also spotted my 'christian' next door neighbours car in a disabled space and he clearly isnt disabled.

I wouldnt recommend throwing white paint over a car though .

hercules1 · 15/03/2008 16:23

Interested to know how you know your neighbour isn't disabled?

WanderingTrolley · 15/03/2008 16:27

My solution

Bouncingturtle · 15/03/2008 16:32

WT - can we apply that solution to the actual threads about P&T spaces? I would be all for that

duchesse · 15/03/2008 16:45

oh ffs, not another one.

Supermarkets should increase the width of all parking spaces so that anyone may park anywhere. And unless you delivered your baby less than two weeks ago or are incapacitated in some way, you should be capable of crossing a car park even with a baby/ toddler in tow. Fgs, people take their little little children on public transport because they have to- surely walking a few ten of extra yards isn't going to kill anyone? Yes, M&T parking spaces are nice, but certainly not worth getting hot under the collar about. I stopped using them when I realised it was actually quicker to park in the far end of the car park where there were spaces and WALK all the way to the supermarket.

Remotew · 15/03/2008 16:49

Hercules. He and his family are very fit, always fell walking etc. He works and there is no disabled sticker on their car.

hercules1 · 15/03/2008 16:54

You can be all those things and still disabled, apart from the badge of course.

Remotew · 15/03/2008 17:04

I'd never presume that someone who appears AB is. But I know him well. Its just tickled me as Mr Perfect christian perhaps isnt . Certainly wasnt incensed by it there are more important things to get upset about.

Miggsie · 15/03/2008 17:08

I think all car parks attached to supermarkets should be removed and turned into nice parks and people should park at least 1 mile away and be forced to use their legs and walk.
Only those demonstrably having a baby in tow or disabled should be allowed with their car within 100 yards of it.
Then people wouldn't buy so much bloody food which they don't need and 30% of which is thrown away and we might not all be so unfit and fat.
And Tescos might not have more power than many smaller poorer nations.

Removes controversy hat.

needmorecoffee · 15/03/2008 18:07

well said Miggsie.

sainsbury actually enforce their spaces. i complained when a woman parked in the last space (ds was 4mths old) - her response was that she had a blue badge so could park where she wanted. sainsburys security made her move her car!

Sidge · 15/03/2008 22:27

kaa0901 - I would have thought her need was greater than yours if she had a blue badge. (but not if there were disabled spaces available)
