PLease help. If someone can give me the answer to this I will be most grateful.

See attached pic - earlier I clicked something by accident which has made it so that my taskbar has changed, it used to be all white and fill the page but now the taskbar has shifted down and it's really annoying.

Dh says it looks like it normally does. I KNOW it doesn't!

it's driving me nuts

Right clisk at the taskbar > make sure there is no check mark at " Lock the taskbar " > if yes, uncheck it.
Rest your cursor iNSIDE the taskbar > left click and HOLD > drag the taskbar towards the top of wherever you want. It might take a few tries to achieve that.
When the taskbar is back where you want it to be, make sure you lock it.

AngryBird6122 · 13/12/2023 20:51

@Ranouts thank you but right clicking the taskbar doesn't bring up 'lock the taskbar' 😭

AngryBird6122 · 13/12/2023 20:53

Below the address bar you mean?
Have you turned on the bookmarks bar (with no bookmarks in it)or something?

SerendipityJane · 13/12/2023 20:56

Chrome had a massive update yesterday - quite a lot has changed.

AngryBird6122 · 13/12/2023 20:56

@exitviathegiftshop i really don't know but I have been fiddling for hours. I had this before once and managed to sort it but I can't remeber how. I know it's only a small thing but I can't bear it

AngryBird6122 · 13/12/2023 20:56

@SerendipityJane It happened to me a few months ago though. Then today I clicked on something (i don't know what) and it did this again.

Look in the view menu?
I'll look on my computer when I get to work tomorrow if you haven't worked it out before then...

Fr1day · 13/12/2023 21:00

Ctrl + Shift + B together will enable and disable the bookmarks bar. I'm not sure if that's what you are referring to though.

AngryBird6122 · 13/12/2023 21:01

@exitviathegiftshop thank you! I have tried everything

Mine looks exactly like that, except that I have dark mode enabled. As peeps have said they have been updating Chrome, I think the tab corners have got rounded, but I am not sure that you mean by 'taskbar'??? If this means anything, this is Google Chrome Version 120.0.6099.110 (Official Build) (64-bit) on Windows 11 version 23h2.

@PaulaPocket sorry I might not be making sense when I say taskbar! What i mean is that the top of the tab isn't touching the top. So there is that gap where you can see the blue and it's not normally like that

Oh, OK. I changed my Chrome theme to default so it's blue background and this is what I see, a thin blue gap above the tab, it's how Chrome looks now, you didn't click anything, they've altered quite a few things this week.

You could try Opera or Firefox if you want a different look?

AngryBird6122 · 13/12/2023 21:24

@PaulaPocket it's so annoying if that's the case! I really struggle with change. I know it sounds silly. Hope I get used to it quickly then 😬

I hate it too (and I hate change!) but I'm sure you'll get used to it soon enough.
I've been using Chrome for many years, and dug out an old laptop the other week - not been on for about 3 years.
I struggled to even recognise how Chrome looked then!

AngryBird6122 · 13/12/2023 21:37

@Deathbyfluffy haha yeah that must have been a shock!

You know, before I saw this question I had a funny feeling something was different in Google Chrome. For a week or so. Tab shape and size, I thought, but I wasn't sure. I found this dated Aug 2021 when the tabs did reach to the top

@PaulaPocket yes! I want it back. If there’s a way I would love to know.

Try this at your peril!!!!!

Open a new tab

paste this into the address bar

about:flags/#chrome-refresh-2023

You should see a page like below, the drop down menu to the right of the entry for 'Chrome Refresh 2023' should be set to 'enabled'. If it is, set it to 'Disabled' and a button should appear asking you to relaunch Chrome. After that, if you don't like the result, you should be able to repeat the above and change back to 'Enabled'.

I'm going to have hours of fun now, when I should be doing other things!

There are lots of 'flags' to fool around with... DH says I'm mad, but I love to fiddle!

IsThisNameTaken · 14/12/2023 10:52

It's definitely the new chrome update - I didn't have a gap 5 minutes ago but have just updated it and I do have one now!

DogInATent · 14/12/2023 11:04

I have just updated Chrome and it's gone from no-gap to gap.

PaulaPocket · 14/12/2023 11:16

Got this back using my method above
