Putting clothes on from inside out to right way around

pontipinemum · 13/12/2023 10:09

DH and I were discussing last night if it is normal for people to be able to put clothing that is inside out, onto their body the right way around in 1 motion. E.G. when I take off a jumper it will be inside out, without turning it the right way around I put it back on but it will be the correct way around.

I can to it easily with jumpers/ hoody/ t-shirts I can do it with trousers but don't as much.

At school in PE I would take my shirt + jumper off together, hang them up inside out then pick them back up inside out and pull them on together reversing them as I put them on.

YABU - No most people turn the clothing the correct way then put it on

YANBU - That's pretty common and loads do it.

I have no idea whether I'm able to do this as it has literally never occurred to me.

Completely this 🤔

Catza · 13/12/2023 10:12

I think most people would turn the clothes the right way around before putting them on, OP.

pontipinemum · 13/12/2023 10:14

@Catza but it's a step you don't need to do.

Honestly it's not something I ever noticed other people didn't/ couldn't do. No one told me or taught me to do it that way. DH just thinks it's funny. He can't do it, he get's caught up

Same as you OP. I do it with tops but not trousers. Also I often was and iron stuff inside out but never bother turning it the right way, just poke my head in, job done.

Ablondiebutagoody · 13/12/2023 10:16

*wash not was 😶

Ponoka7 · 13/12/2023 10:16

It's usual for children. Nursery teach toddlers to put their coats on that way. I would think that it's the norm for adults to put things the right way. Although if they've been dried inside out, it would be easy to put a t shirt on that way. With some people they'd have done their hair so would be mindful of that and make up etc.

pontipinemum · 13/12/2023 10:17

@Ablondiebutagoody I was all my clothing inside out because that's the way it comes off! But apparently it is better for the clothing, stops the bobbling being on the good side

OP posts:
pontipinemum · 13/12/2023 10:18

@Ponoka7 do they, I went to nursery, maybe that's where I learnt. DS goes now but is only 1 so I put his coat on for him when I collect him

I have wondered about this ever since I read about someone on here doing it. I have yet to achieve such a feat. Please can you break down this magic trick.

DuploTrain · 13/12/2023 10:20

I don’t take my clothes off inside out though... So there’s no additional step to put them the right way again.

Milknosugarta · 13/12/2023 10:20

Not the point but, I recall my gran used to say if you had put something on inside out accidentally, some good fortune was coming your way. Mind you, she said loads of funny things like that. 😁

ZiriForGood · 13/12/2023 10:22

I can do it, but it requires thinking.
I rather take my clothes off in a way it doesn't end inside out, seems easier for me.

Sahara123 · 13/12/2023 10:33

That sounds like a genius idea but I’m not sure I can actually do it ! Too much thinking involved!

I put my head through the head hole, then start pulling it down my body and just push my arms through the arm bits. Def easiest with a t shirt

Neitheronethingnortheother · 13/12/2023 10:41

I do this with tops, jumpers etc, I don't take trousers/skirts off inside out so I don't think I ever need to do this with those

I didn't realise this wasn't normal 😂

pontipinemum · 13/12/2023 10:42

@Milknosugarta if you accidently put clothes on backwards it is very bad luck to turn them the right way around 😝

@ZiriForGood @Sahara123 it's the way I've always done it so doesn't involve any thinking. I think to learn it might make people over think it

OwOwHolyCow · 13/12/2023 10:43

I do it all the time. I never realised not everyone just automatically did this tbh.

You need to make sure the label is at the back of your neck. Just as you would anyway, but you have to be that bit more careful, especially if you have 3 layers nested inside each other.

CurlewKate · 13/12/2023 10:47

I used to do this as a "party trick"when I was a child! I'd forgotten about brilliant just now....

Joonio · 13/12/2023 10:49

Can you not take them off without turning them inside out? Strange.
Do you know the side label is always on the left so that blind people can dress.

Minesril · 13/12/2023 10:53

I do this with T-shirts. Think about how you take it off by holding the edge and pulling it over your head. To put it back on, just reverse that.

I love the way toddlers put their coat upside down on the floor, put their arms in and flip it over their head 🥰

FaintlyMacabre · 13/12/2023 10:55

I’ve done this (with tops only) since I was about 16 and watched someone put a jumper on using the method described above. I can do it with 3 nested tops as well.
It’s really not difficult or any kind of magic trick!
Having said that I do turn my children’s clothes the right way round for them so don’t expect them to do it- must see if they can…

KnickerlessParsons · 13/12/2023 10:58

I can do it, but don't do it as often as I used to.

Catza · 13/12/2023 11:14

Edited

I don't take my clothes off inside out. I wiggle my arms out and then take the top off over my head the right way around. Same with trousers, I don't just yank them off from the waist down.
If the clothes are clean, they are already turned and folded the right way around.
Anyway, I am not so short on time that I worry about an extra step that might take 3 seconds.
