To wonder why black hair dye is so popular

Lots of women of all ages seem to dye their hair jet black, even though black box dye can look super flat and draining on some complexions (particularly people with pale skin) and it's quite aging? I'm just wondering why really jet dark black is so popular? Do you dye your hair black and why? I get it can be part of a certain aesthetic (goth or 30s/40s pin-up look etc.)

In comparison, I get why women go blonde or brown/caramel when it isn't their natural colour - the right shade can be very brightening and look youthful. (For context my greys have really taken off recently and I've been thinking about hair dye a lot!)

I don’t need to see every single one 🤣 The combination of light skin + jet black hair is just unappealing to me. Just looks bad in general.

The ones who don't know any black haired people, do you all only meet or see white people? Most of the world is black haired.

Well, the vast majority of the world's population has naturally black or very dark brown hair.

However, box black dyes (which generally produce quite a 'flat' colour) very rarely suit people of Northern European descent, which I'm guessing are the sort of people you're referring to?

My natural hair colour is the darkest brown/almost black (so much so that hairdressers have often assumed it was dyed) and my skin is v pale (Irish heritage) and I don't think that I look "bad in general" @Keilagh.

Luckily for me I also like wearing black and it suits me. It's a shame that I never wanted to be a goth as I'm pretty much 90% there already 🤣

I think possibly people might just dye their hair brown and it stays on too long? My hair takes dye ridiculously fast!!

I dye my hair black (although it's more of a very dark brown) because quite simply, it suits me. I look a bit like Liv Tyler with a very cool colouring so warm colours like caramel, honey or blonde look absolutely bloody hideous on me as I am cool toned and they are very warm. I also like the combination of dark hair and light/green eyes, I think its stunning.

I dont know why you chose to mention black specifically as I have seen many, many bleached blondes or fake redheads that have a very harsh hair colour and the wrong colour (whatever the shade) can look bad if it doesn't suit that person's colouring. You don't like dyed black hair- that's fine, but it's utter nonsense to suggest that black is the only colour that can look harsh and be aging on certain people. Brassy blonde and that weird aubergine shade that so many older women like is deeply unflattering to me.

You said it looked disgusting and accused people who do it of thinking that they look like Megan Fox. You didn't say it wasn't to your taste, you overtly insulted people and made up shit about them. And now you're insulting them further for pulling you up on your nastiness.

Cillian Murphy has brown hair. I was thinking of courtney Cox. It suited her and she's pale,but it's a tough look to pull off. Maybe Courtney Cox has cool colouring.

I do know some girls who dyed it to look like Megan Fox tbf.

I did say in another post it’s my personal opinion and that I just don’t find the colour combination appealing. Of course others will find it attractive that’s why they dye it in the first place. I don’t feel the need to put a disclaimer after every single post to remind people that I’m talking subjectively & that I’m not the spokesperson for the entire population.
