Hi I told my mother I have my nieces presents (bear in mind we don’t make a big deal of Xmas as we’re Muslims )

when she heard the present is a hair accessory she said “is that all” and looked disapprovingly into the distance

i then explained that no matter how expensive their gift is it’s not going to make them like me more as me and my brother have always been distant with each other since we started having our own families

in the past my mum has also bought gifts for
me to give to my brother which I have to pretend are from me .

she has depression for years , suspected autism , and emotional disregulation

anyway know she’s made me feel guilty but won’t acknowledge it

it's not you or your brothers kids to blame for th fall out between u him and your mum.
a hair accessory is really stingy but yeah it's a present, so your call.

Why have you previously pretended that gifts are off you? It's one thing buying small, it's another thing pretending something was from you to take the glory without the cost. So yeah, YABU.

Maybe remove your mum from the equation and you and brother try and find a way to get on? Could be nice for your kids as it is their cousins

WillowTit · 11/12/2023 16:01
