Am I the only person who can't stand the word fanny?

I find the word fanny ick and uncomfortable. I really cringe when people use it. It just sounds vile and reminds me of like a big fat builder fanny or something weird like that (I know, what is wrong with me!?) But seriously is anyone else the same?

What other words make you cringe??

@NoTouch no I'm not talking about the American use. I imagine a fat builder with a huge vagina whenever I hear the word fanny. It's the weirdest thing I know, but that's how much the word makes me cringe lol.

what am I reading???

Haydenn · 11/12/2023 11:06

Americans - Fanny Pack. 😅 it just kills me

My DParents were invited to friends (living in America)daughters wedding , at the rehearsal dinner they were sat next to some.of the grooms family. A lady asked my dad if they'd been somewhere nice sightseeing. My dad gave list of what they'd done, including Niagra Falls.and how tired they were . Lady said 'oh when we went to Niagra falls my fanny was done in....off all the cycling's my dad literally choked on his dinner.
Fanny=bottom. Dad loved telling that story

My son has recently been diagnosed with diabetes ,I'm on a American Facebook group for it and there was a discussion how people carry their insulin and snacks around a few people used Fanny packs which did make me smile
I do know that Fanny= Ass in America but it was the picture it conjured up😂

Toottooot · 11/12/2023 11:09

Fit aboot fud as an alternative?

Helendegenerate · 11/12/2023 11:15

I used to work with a lady who referred to hers as her

FOOF

😎

Ravenclaw101 · 11/12/2023 00:07

Fanny is all about context for me.

As a vagina reference, absolutely not. But I do love to tell people to stop fannying around.

This is exactly what I was going to say!

Bireadwhatiread · 11/12/2023 11:20

I.find people using the medical terms slightly more annoying
vulva-6/10 annoying
labia majora or whatever 7/10

redfacebigdisgrace · 11/12/2023 00:08

Here in Scotland we love calling people fannies . It makes me laugh. I don’t like it as a serious reference to vulva/vagina though.

I am in Scotland too and I have to agree haha

I am shocked and appalled at the content of this discussion.

I see it didn't take long for someone to adopt that phrase!

ArsenicInTheAppleTart · 11/12/2023 11:29

But when I do hear someone say it I'm shocked and I cringe.

are you a sheltered Victorian miss who has accidentally time travelled to 2023?

Being shocked by the word fanny seems a bit odd.

What is a big fat builder fanny?

Surely it's what Southerners call 'builder's cleavage'.

presentadvice · 11/12/2023 11:31

Seadreamers · 11/12/2023 07:00

I know two women called this, both foreign-born and it’s their real name since birth. When one realised what this infers in the UK she changed her name. The other couldn’t care less.

You've reminded me that it is actually a name. I think I remember a girl in an Enid Blyton book called Fanny.

DeepfriedPizza · 11/12/2023 11:32

JockTamsonsBairns · 11/12/2023 00:47

I'm from Glasgow, so 'fanny' is common parlance as an insult. I would consider its usage quite vulgar in relation to a vagina.

Similarly, I'm quite used to the word 'cunt' being used as an affectionate term, so I'm not phased by it at all.

Exactly, from the West of Scotland I call everyone a fanny on a daily basis but would never use it in relation to a vagina. Too vulgar for that 😁

Thanks for nothing! Now I've got an image in my head that just won't go away!

Toddlerteaplease · 11/12/2023 11:34

I can't bear the word vulva!

I lived in Canada for a while. My Canadian friend Kris had to restrain his British smoker friend from going up to some blokes in the pub and asking if them if he could 'Bum a fag'.

SmokeyToo · 11/12/2023 11:40

Fanny reminds me of Enid Blyton.

My most hated word is "moist". Closely followed by "panties". Using them together would probably give me a stroke!

Weegieunicorn · 11/12/2023 11:42

Ye fud!! Scottish folk tend to use it as a term of endearment not to describe biological parts.

Americano75 · 11/12/2023 11:54

Better than pussy. retches

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 11/12/2023 11:54

It doesn’t bother me at all.

I do raise internal eyebrows at parents who insist on little boys saying ‘penis’ (such an ugly word) instead of the nice, friendly sounding ‘willy’.

Thepeopleversuswork · 11/12/2023 12:00

I agree, I absolutely loathe it; and I'm usually pretty sweary and relaxed about that kind of thing. It conjures up a really grotesque image. I actually prefer the c word to fanny.

SirenSays · 11/12/2023 12:02

Awful word makes me feel queasy.

I am always slightly bemused by posters who demand their children use words like penis and vulva but on the next thread they're posting about their fanjo and norks

Bireadwhatiread · 11/12/2023 12:03

I currently have an earworm of Borat saying "veggina" so tend to say that.

If you loathe it so much why do you type it out in full yet refer to the less offensive word a s 'the c word'?

Gnomegnomegnome · 11/12/2023 12:06

It’s not a word that I use but I don’t feel sick when I hear it.

I dislike the ‘word’ ick. Why not say sick or whatever? It sounds childish.
