Work Colleague

I have this work colleague, who I absolutely hated when she first started but she’s grown in me and we have a kind of friendship, but she kind of fan girls me a bit which I find a bit weird.

I like to be a bit unique with my clothes (I am late 40s) and have my own style.

She has started copying my clothes and it’s doing my head in. If I discuss anything I am thinking of buying she will go out and buy it. I asked her not to do this as I don’t want to turn up in identical clothing to someone else.

At the works xmas do we ended up ordering the same thing and she said “oh so it’s ok to order the same food but not wear the same clothes” so it’s like she totally does not get or respect how I feel about this.

What do I do?

AIBU to feel like this?

If you know she does this why on earth are you discussing what you are planning to buy with her?

JetBlackSteed · 10/12/2023 20:26

Stop talking to her and discussing clothes?

EvilElsa · 10/12/2023 20:27

Just don't tell her anything. Or tell her you are buying something you definitely won't.

Notimeforaname · 10/12/2023 20:29

so it’s like she totally does not get or respect how I feel about this.
That's exactly what it is. You can either keep pulling her up on it each time, or just don't tell her what you're buying.
You dont have to be friends with her either, it doesn't sound like you like her too much anyway.

It’s just general office chat. I have stopped discussing with her but I guess it’s a big interest of mine. Or we pop to the shop at lunchtime for a sandwich and pop into a charity shop.

I mention sfuff unintentionally and the next minute she’s bought it.

Shes a shopaholic and also has a weight issue and has lost a lot of weight recently.

I think she was a size 22 and is now a 16. So she mad done really well and we have all encouraged her.

I am a size 10. And when someone asked me if I was she got really pissy with me and said “don’t rub it in” Yeager?!

She’s lost a lot of weight so maybe she is trying to find her new style and will find her feet. She might just inspired by your style right now?

MaybeImbad · 10/12/2023 20:52

If it’s a charity shop isn’t there just one of the item you’re buying anyway??

Moonshine5 · 10/12/2023 21:08

You could see it as a compliment
