To be pissed off about dosing balls.

So our last dosing ball is now lost. I have no idea where it is. It was in pretty bad shape anyway so due a replacement.

But I can’t do my washing! These used to just be in the shops but now I can’t pick one up at the supermarket. I am stuck having to order from Amazon for a TENNER or wait for the unknown length of time for the free dose ball I just signed up to from P&G arrives.

I am just annoyed about this. I get why they removed them from every bottle because that’s unnecessary. But to make it impossible to get one without extensive internet digging is also ridiculous.

Same with a loo brush. Sainsbury’s didn’t have one either.

No wonder Amazon is going so well.

What on earth is going on?!?!

I just pour the liquid straight into the drawer

Mouthouch · 07/12/2023 18:27

But how do you know how much liquid to pour in? I have a mega bottle.

Just freestyle it

Mouthouch · 07/12/2023 18:28

Oh the drawer, no I have gel as our drawer doesn’t function great for that and I use vanish powder as extra in the drawer for both pre and full wash. I have no drawer space.

use the cap.

Find an alternative. The small sauce tubs usually hold the right amount. We use an old smiggle stacking pot

ohtowinthelottery · 07/12/2023 18:30

I just pour mine in the drawer too. I just guess the amount depending on how much washing I've put in the drum. I always guessed with soap powder too back in the day.

JustAMinutePleass · 07/12/2023 18:32

Just get powder. If you use vanish powder then just use the scoop for that for both. My ratio is 1 scoop of vanish for 2 scoops of powder for a 9kg wash

SlashBeef · 07/12/2023 18:32

Just eyeball it or use a little cup or something..

Roselilly36 · 07/12/2023 18:32

Life is too short for dosing balls OP, switch to Magic Laundry Leaves, absolutely brilliant, no mess or fuss, I just put a couple in the machine drum. Total convert.

Benibidibici · 07/12/2023 18:34

The balls suggest a "dose" far higher than most people actually need.

You can just pour a glug in the drawer and its fine to just chuck vanish powder in with it. The quantities really are not an exact science. You could prob use a table spoon or two and it would be fine.

pickledandpuzzled · 07/12/2023 18:34

Just put a splash on a shirt, or in a small plastic tub of some sort.

Honestly I can’t remember the last time I even saw one, let alone used one!

Mouthouch · 07/12/2023 18:35

Ok I used the lid, which has no indication of measurement, so went for 2 which is probably complete overkill. Then had to rinse it because otherwise gammy lid.

I did consider the vanish cups but it has a handle and I need to wash some knits.

Plus I like the ball for tumble dryer as it helps with creases.

I will continue my quiet fury but thank you for helping me through my red fog to get this load on 🤣

Of course you can do your washing without the dosing ball. Either measure some into the drawer using the cap of the bottle, or measure it directly into the drum before putting the clothes in, again using the cap. You can put the Vanish powder in that way too. Why not?

Get a couple of dosing balls ordered from Amazon if you must, but I really don't see what's stopping you from doing your laundry.

Just keep the cap off an old bottle of liquid and use that?

isthismylifenow · 07/12/2023 18:48

If you are used to pouring into the ball, just pour the same amount into another container.

I couldn't tell you how many I've thrown away over the years as I just didn't get the point of them.

You'll have to find another way to get out of doing the washing 😜
