EBay underpayment of postage

I recently bought an item on EBay. I asked the seller to track it as it did not arrive within 10 days. I have now found out that it is at the post office and I need to pay £4.00 to collect it as it was underpaid. Is this charge for the seller to cover or for me to cover. AIBU in thinking that the seller should cover it?

Yes, I’d message them and ask them to refund £4 of your payment so you can cover it.

I accidentally did this one, and I refunded the buyer as soon as she let me know.

I think technically the seller should cover it, it’s annoying but is it worth the hassle? If the seller is a commercial organisation they should know better. What was the cost of the item?

lf, however, she is an individual, has it been a genuine error or might she have even been advised wrongly when posting it? Sadly, the UK postal rate system with its first and second class, small items, large items etc, is one of the most complex in the world.

Usually the buyer pays postage on eBay, unless the seller offers free postage. So it depends how much you were charged for postage and how much was paid.
