To think kids media should ease up on the representations of snow

Trying to be lighthearted here but this is bugging me
CBeebies has wall-to-wall snow right now, in all the Christmas episodes and in-between segments, anything to do with Christmas or winter = SNOW SNOW SNOW
Except for Bluey which represents Australian December accurately.
Also books from the library, British ones, it's snowing at Christmas and anything about the seasons is like "in winter it snows bla bla bla"
Well my DD has never seen snow in all of her 5 years and she asks every day when it's going to start snowing, and getting disappointed that it isn't snowing yet.
AIBU to want to see Christmas or winter represented without snow occasionally so it's accurate to our actual lives?

Literally no-one ever who lives in Hove has said they live in Brighton, and they are extremely quick to correct you that they live in "Hove, actually" if you suggest they do.

Uhh
The "Hove, actually" thing is obviously a stereotype
People only say "Hove, actually" when they're making a joke
Most people around my way would say they live in Brighton if talking to someone not from here. Not "Portslade" which no-one has heard of.
My address as per Royal Mail Postcode Finder has "Brighton" in it.

I also get annoyed by the lack of seagull representation in kid's media when there are so many ducks, and DD never saw a real duck until she was 3. I didn't start a thread about that though because that seemed much more specific to seaside towns! Maybe the snow thing is too.

My DD was 3 months old when lockdown started and she had seen ducks before she turned 1!

I think you might need to expose your child to more experiences!

Sparkledr · 07/12/2023 20:49

Whats deeply weird about me suggesting nearby ducks when someone is claiming there aren't any. How was I to know you didn't live on Brigjton seafront when you said you did.
What is weird is starting a thread being pissed off at snow. And you do give a fuck about ducks in that they are over- represented in media apparently. Mumsnet is weird. I think I'm being trolled by someone so concerned about snow and seagulls.
For what it's worth Lewes which is sooooo far away (too far to visit the ducks) from you is also in a Brighton and Hove postcode but they definitely wouldn't be saying they Iive in Brighton! Again bizzare.

We live in the SE and my 5yo has seen snow every year so far?

is this really worth getting worked up over

Most children in the UK will have seen snow, even if not frequently. It's the linking of snow with Christmas which can get frustrating. It's much commoner to get snow in February.

OP I can’t believe you have not included a diagram, we need to see precisely where you live, all the parks in a 30 mile radius, duck population as at 2 years ago, and a bus timetable please.

Otherwise how can anyone be expected to comment on your point about snow?

AntHedge · 19/01/2024 07:06

Has It snowed in Brighton yet?
Do you have any plans to travel to see ducks in snow? (You wouldn't think that would be a necessary journey but this thread suggests otherwise)
Looking forward to the diagram 😁

Neer seen any ducks at Hove Park but have seen a badger several times

We had quite the snowstorm one day last week, it was at LEAST a millimetre thick on the ground! I think that might be it for the year.
