Posting for traffic. Apologies for grim interior of my mouth. Embarrassingly haven’t visited a dentist since Covid and well aware I am super overdue a hygienist!

Woke up with a tender roof palette around top wisdom tooth area. Thoughout the day it seems to be expanding more and more into a huge bulge.

This photo does not really do it justice as it’s difficult to photograph your mouth. It is massive!

It’s ok pain wise currently but on the edge. Can tell this could go really bad so going to try to track down an emergency appointment somewhere tomorrow.

What is this? As usual google tells me I have cancer.

And what will the treatment be? Please tell me I’m not getting whisked into surgery to remove wisdom teeth 🤦‍♀️

Really wanted to stick my head in the sand about this today as hate getting work done. Now going to be worrying all night what’s wrong with it. Please say this is common and just need antibiotics and a hygienist.

Thanks for any advice or reassurance.

Well I think you're in luck that it does need antibiotics as it looks like an abscess.

The tooth in front of it may be the cause and after antibiotics you might need further work, root canal or extraction. You may also be fine after antibiotics.

have you had an extraction there in the past? Could be something left behind from an earlier treatment if you had wisdoma removed.

Omg thank god antibiotics might fix it. Don’t think I have ever had much work done on the top back. Potentially a filling maybe but certainly nothing major.

Abscess sounds nasty though. Eww. Serves me right for not visiting for so long 🤦‍♀️

@Anotherparkingthread

Anything I should be doing in the mean time? Swilling salt or something crazy?

I always used corsodyl for an abscess until antibiotics kicked in

Bicab of soda solution soaked into a cotton wool ball also helps.
Chewing a clove can offer some relief. Not to everyone's taste, admittedly.
