To think this is actually a rather nice daily menu for a toddler?

Breakfast - cheerios with milk

Snack - pear

Lunch - tuna, avocado and sweetcorn toasted sandwich

Dinner - homemade chicken curry
pudding - yoghurt

That’s fine surely?!

Of course it is.

PiggieWig · 05/12/2023 16:58

Who says it isn’t?

Fairylightfurore · 05/12/2023 16:59

It's fine, possibly a bit high on sugar if having everyday but as one meal in a week it looks ok

AdoraBell · 05/12/2023 16:59

Absolutely fine.

ManateeFair · 05/12/2023 16:59

Why wouldn't it be? Who's complaining?

Headband · 05/12/2023 16:59

Yes , seems fine, who says it isn't? Was it the Cheerios ?

Guavafish1 · 05/12/2023 16:59

I would substitute cheerio with something else.

EdinGirl · 05/12/2023 16:59

I would probably do some cheese cubes or something with the pear. But every toddler has a different appetite and if they are happy with that, then it's perfect :)

Ilovetocookandbake · 05/12/2023 17:00

High on sugar, where? Honestly wondering.

Well, it was actually MIL who made a ‘poor kids’ type of comment. I normally get on well with her which is why I’m a bit Confused

Sounds lovely. I would love it for me!

Headband · 05/12/2023 17:01

I knew someone would mention the cheerios 😊

inigomontoyahwillcox · 05/12/2023 17:02

Looks pretty good to me, only thing is that I wouldn't give the kid cheerios every day as packed with sugar. Maybe substitute with a boiled/scrambled egg and wholemeal soldiers or porridge and banana on some days?

devildeepbluesea · 05/12/2023 17:02

Looks totally fine to me, Cheerios and all.

MIL is probably wondering where the turkey dinosaurs and spaghetti hoops are.

LucyInTheParkWithDragons · 05/12/2023 17:02

Does she want more or less junk food?

My mil thinks DD is deprived because she doesn’t have daily sweets!

Scottishskifun · 05/12/2023 17:02

Tuna once or twice a week not daily would be my only comment due to Mercury content.

Would also add a afternoon snack - oatcakes and cheese or savory muffin etc if your toddler requires it - mine is a gannet and often has 2 snacks in the afternoon!

Ilovetocookandbake · 05/12/2023 17:05

He eats a much better dinner though … I don’t really offer snacks. Probably should but then meals aren’t eaten.

Breakfast is variable but rushed today. To be honest he does reliably eat the cheerios while my carefully made scrambled egg or porridge or eggy bread go untouched 🤣

Don't see anything wrong with it. Personally, I would offer something other than cheerios (with more protein) but this is just because I maybe had cereal three times in my life and I know it doesn't fill me up at all. But it is not going to harm him in any way.
When I was growing up, we had three square meals and no snacks in between. If your MIL refers to him being "poor" because there isn't enough snacking going on, I would disagree.
Again just my personal preference.

ActDottie · 05/12/2023 17:27

It’s absolutely fine and not high sugar at all

treeinthedistance · 05/12/2023 17:27

We grew up eating cereal like Cheerios every day. Was it the absolute best choice our parents could have made? No. Did it do us any harm? Also no.
That looks absolutely fine to me, except that I wouldn't give tuna every day because of the mercury content. But I'm assuming this is a "sample" menu, not literally a daily repeat.

Ilovetocookandbake · 05/12/2023 17:29

Tomorrows menu is

Porridge with a banana

A gingerbread man (baking!)

Chilli con carne

Tomato pasta

Well I'd poor anyone eating tuna and avocado. Maybe it's just not to her taste

GRex · 05/12/2023 17:32

If MIL wants to eat something different, perhaps suggest she has something different?

It very much depends what the other days are; young toddler is great experimentation age so loads of variety, before they start getting picky with a few bits age 4/5/6. The wider the daily variety, the less picky overall I've found. In general, some kids are a nightmare any age.

InTheRainOnATrain · 05/12/2023 17:34

Gosh I think that’s almost exactly what I ate yesterday. Except that I had an apple instead of the pear. And about 5 espressos.
Did MIL clarify what her problem is because honestly I’m baffled?

Ilovetocookandbake · 05/12/2023 17:37

So am I @InTheRainOnATrain . I should probably have just asked but it was on a group chat and the conversation moved on so felt awkward. So there’s nothing obvious anyone can see apart from the horrors of cereal?

@SleepingStandingUp huh?

What??? Did you misread that as Nutella pancakes, followed by McDonald’s for lunch with Pizza Hut and ice cream for dinner?? Seriously what do you eat broccoli and bran flakes all day!?
