To point out how utterly wonderful this MNer is? (Christmas!)

My autistic daughter was desperate for some clothing made by her favourite artist who, until recently, only had stores in America.

I had been trying to buy from his online USA based shop but hitting hurdles and the reviews for international postage were dire. Basically it would be a miracle if anything arrived for Christmas, if at all!

I live 'oop North' and he opened a shop in London, that offered no online service. I couldn't even get an email or phone number for this shop, must be part of being 'exclusive?!'

I explained all this to DD who was visably disappointed but accepted that it was impossible in the circumstances and sent me a few links to some 2nd hand pieces on vinted (that were the same price as new BTW! As it's quite rare in the UK)

But I put out an SOS post on mumsnet and this wonderful, wonderful lady took time out of her day to go to the shop during her lunch break at work, tell me what was there, talk to the assistants to figure out what was available in DDs size and she bought and posted them to me!

They have just arrived and I could almost cry, not just because DD will get the gifts that she wanted and thought were unattainable (it's going to be a relax surprise!) but because they are presents that have true Christmas spirit and kindness attached to them as corny as that sounds!!

So thankyou so much @SollaSollew

You really are amazing and have made Christmas for us!

I remember your SOS post and saw the offer being made.

So glad it all came good

My children often make fun of me for stories/bits of wisdom that I relay to them about/from mumsnet (rolling of eyes usually accompanies it) but honestly this is exactly why I am still here after so many years. Fantastic and making me feel really Christmassy. Big shout out to @SollaSollew!

Pigsinpainauchocolat · 05/12/2023 15:29

Well done @SollaSollew

I'm so happy for you and your DD.

That's a lovely story to read.

That is so lovely. Christmas Spirit is really around at the moment. Just read that Ricky Gervais donated £1.9 million to various animal charities (my favourite charity which is small benefited and it really helped them out). I have cried twice today but happy tears and this is one of the posts that did it! 😊💝

Well done Ricky too! I can imagine how much even a smallish donation means to a small charity.

I love this ❤️

How absolutely lovely, and you are so right to see this is the true spirit of Christmas. I hope I may be allowed to share two “ spirit of Christmas” things that happened to me this week. I am a widow and I live 300 miles away from my only child, his wife and my grandson age 4. they’re going to be away on holiday abroad at Christmas and I will spend Christmas with friends but I’m going to see them the week before Christmas. At my grandson’s preschool, only two tickets per child are allowed for the nativity, and for the carol service. My son has kindly given up his ticket on both occasions so I may go. My daughter-in-law has also offered to babysit on the night before I come home, so my son may take me out for a special dinner because I won’t see them at Christmas. This is really generous gesture from her because she has a busy career and a small child and a holiday to pack for….. have been very touched by their kindness and generosity and think this is also the real spirit of Christmas…. It does exist.

I often blame social media for a lot of ills in the world.
posts like this are lovely though and show the good of it as well

@L9ndonShop

My DS really wanted to go to London, he was pretty disappointed when he saw that Tyler was actually there on the day! He's lucky enough to have a few second hand Golf t shirts that he's managed to buy from vinted and depop.

@Isthisblocked That is a really lovely thing to read. I hope you have a wonderful time at the carol service and Nativity and at your special lunch with your son x

My daughter was devastated! She knew he was going to be there but only with 48 hours notice and I just couldn't justify the cost of last minute train tickets for us both.

I feel really bad because it would have made her year to meet him!

The purchase from @SollaSollew included some free Golf stickers from the London store. I would be happy to post one for your son if its something he would like?

Some many years ago now a lovely mnetter sent me a photocopy of Jamie Oliver's Christmas booklet that was free in one of the newspapers as I had lost mine. I lived outside the UK but she wouldn't let me pay postage and it was just such a lovely and kind thing to do! I still have it too!
