To point out how utterly wonderful this MNer is? (Christmas!)

My autistic daughter was desperate for some clothing made by her favourite artist who, until recently, only had stores in America.

I had been trying to buy from his online USA based shop but hitting hurdles and the reviews for international postage were dire. Basically it would be a miracle if anything arrived for Christmas, if at all!

I live 'oop North' and he opened a shop in London, that offered no online service. I couldn't even get an email or phone number for this shop, must be part of being 'exclusive?!'

I explained all this to DD who was visably disappointed but accepted that it was impossible in the circumstances and sent me a few links to some 2nd hand pieces on vinted (that were the same price as new BTW! As it's quite rare in the UK)

But I put out an SOS post on mumsnet and this wonderful, wonderful lady took time out of her day to go to the shop during her lunch break at work, tell me what was there, talk to the assistants to figure out what was available in DDs size and she bought and posted them to me!

They have just arrived and I could almost cry, not just because DD will get the gifts that she wanted and thought were unattainable (it's going to be a relax surprise!) but because they are presents that have true Christmas spirit and kindness attached to them as corny as that sounds!!

So thankyou so much @SollaSollew

You really are amazing and have made Christmas for us!

I didn't sign up for this emotion trip today!! How lovely.

Imperfectp3rf3ction · 05/12/2023 12:43

My dd 12 is autistic and has very rare and very specific interests ( none of which available in UK) so I completely understand the actions of this woman probably want male you cry. Well done that lady 👏👏👏

KimberleyClark · 05/12/2023 12:43

That's really sweet and you absolutely should be proud of her. Even neurotypical children would struggle with disappointment.

DD is non-verbal but signalled she wanted an obscure (and discontinued) toy and was adamant about it for the past year.

I can't tell you the lengths I went to to find it, unsuccessfully.

Finally discovered it on Facebook marketplace. It belonged to a lady in Northern Ireland who (understandably) didn't want to to post it as it was large and heavy.

Long story short, she went out of the way to make sure it reached us. It honestly made my Christmas.

DD has never understood the concept of presents before and it was the first time she ever asked for anything. Ever.

The thought of letting her down was unbearable. And now we don't have to!

Happy Christmas!

@GlobalCitz

that's wonderful. Just DD being able to ask is incredible, let alone the rest!

I hope the FB lady has a lovely Christmas too. Yours is going to be amazing. 🤩

How old is DD?

Iwanttheraintostop · 05/12/2023 12:50

Amazing, I hope the person who sent this is reading all these lovely messages!

Igmum · 05/12/2023 12:52

I remember your thread too. Aren't people wonderful ❤️❤️❤️

Pinkpinkpink15 · 05/12/2023 12:55

@L9ndonShop what a 🌟 your DD is for being able to accept it was almost impossible for you to get the things she wanted!

I have been on MN since practically it started. It used to be be much more like this. It really was a close community. Don't get me wrong, there were some bunfights. But an incredible amount of care & helping each other out.

i often feel I'm too (not old exactly, but not 'woke' enough to be on here) but threads like this remind me there are still good people on here, who will go the extra mile & care about others.

thank you for sharing! Xx

Eeepsh · 05/12/2023 12:59

I remember a few years ago someone managing to find a Hedwig water bottle and send it to another MN'er.

it's nice to be reminded sometimes that there are good people in the world!

Crucible · 05/12/2023 13:01

I've been here 20 years too!

This isn't the first time someone's helped me out at Christmas either, many years ago another lovely lady found an item locally I'd been searching for.

I'm waiting for the day I can find a MNer in need and help them!

Riapia · 05/12/2023 13:21

@SollaSollew. Hope you have a happy Christmas and a wonderful new year.
Only a few days ago posters were saying that MN had got nastier recently.
There are still some good people here.
A lovely warm glow on a winter day.
❤️❤️❤️

Lwrenagain · 05/12/2023 13:21

This is wonderful to read. ❤

ginasevern · 05/12/2023 13:24

This is the true spirit of Christmas and (I would like to think) of Mumsnet too. A community of women supporting each other. Sorry if that sounds twee but it is meant from the heart.

piscofrisco · 05/12/2023 13:24

Love this to death

Allwelcone · 05/12/2023 13:30

Ah well done @SollaSollew - warms my heart!
