help! double vision?

bit of a weird one, just wondered if anyone could tell me anything else about this!

when i read i dont usually get double vision. But i feel like if im reading or doing anything up close for any length of time, i have to sort of work hard not to get double vision. I cant really explain what im doing it just feels like im making my eyes work hard. when i just 'relax' my eyes and stop working hard, i get double vision straight away. And one of my eyes turns out.Everything just splits into 2. it happens with things up to about 4 metres away but doesnt happen to anything further away than that. when things are up close its much worse- the closer the worse the double vision. if i hold something like a book and then relax my eyes it all splits into 2. so for example if i write this

X

and then i relax my eyes, i can see 2 X. i can work really hard to only see 1 X again but its more comfy just to relax my eyes and see 2. When i see 2 i can pick which X i want to look at and then the other is still visible but blurry and i can swap between both. when i recorded myself doing it my eyes were turning out one at a time

does anyone know what this is? ive had it all my childhood and adult life but just wondered if anyone could tell me anything about it

thanks!

It sounds like you have a lazy eye. Is your vision corrected with lenses?

DarkAcademia · 04/12/2023 22:53

I developed this recently to a lesser extent and it turned out I needed reading glasses.

Crikeyisthatthetime · 04/12/2023 22:55

Have you ever discussed this with an optician or doctor? Had your eyes tested?

Quartz2208 · 04/12/2023 22:58

Squint/lazy eye exercises you can do

MammaWeasel · 04/12/2023 23:02

I can do this too, I have a squint.

Go and see an optician!

Symphony830 · 04/12/2023 23:08

I’ve had double vision and saw halos years back when I had dry eyes due to contact lens wear.

Recently, I had concerns over my eye health as I’d had a twitch for several weeks and booked an appointment at Vision Express/Specsavers. One of the two. Cost me about £20 and they did a series of checks for eye health using their machines.

I would recommend this if you’re worried.

Definitely worth going to an optician.

I have DV if I concentrate for too long and I put up with it for several years before discovering it was caused by Myasthenia Gravis (there other causes too though)
