To want Christmas lights without red

Hi, first world problems I know. We decorated the tree with what I thought were traditional lights and put all of the baubles & ornaments on. It is bugging me having red, dark blue, green & yellow lights. I just went with it as I liked the shapes but now I'm finding them ugly.

I have found some great traditional lights online with orange instead of yellow, pink instead of red, no turquoise blue, but offerings are limited. I hate LED. The thing is I really don't want to redo the whole tree, it's 7 foot. I will get them for next year.

Does anybody know if I can do anything to make the red lights look pink, yellow ones orange? The bulb covers screw off but I wouldn't want to risk overheating. Does anybody know if there's anything I can do, a film or something to put inside round the lights?

I know what you mean.

Every year I think I’ll source string of lights in the individual colours because I find the multi coloured ones you get these days are really overwhelmed by the blue and green. They’re not as warm as I remember them being either which I think is possibly down to the lack of shade around each light.

Then each year I promptly forget until I’ve put the tree up again 🤦‍♀️

I just want some with a proper twinkle, not a strobe light.

HappyHamsters · 03/12/2023 18:22

Can you just buy replacement bulbs and unscrew the ones you don't like

LuckyCharmz · 03/12/2023 18:22

I’ve just bought some from B&Q, pink; yellow, green and blue. LED though which I prefer. Not cheap though, £42 for 12 metres.

theduchessofspork · 03/12/2023 18:23

Just take those ones out, that’s all you could do.

I like multicoloured baubles but I think lights as well is too much

JustTalkToThem · 03/12/2023 18:23

Could get smart light and pick your own color/twinkle on the app. Not incandescent though.

Thank you everyone for your ideas. My young dc helped me put the ornaments on, and he was so proud of himself. I haven't got the heart to take them off.

The suggestion of replacement bulbs is great, but I have no idea where to source them after quick look online.

I think I'm going to have to just get used to them for this year, they're big & such an eyesore, totally spoil my lovely new tree.

Post a pic and I can try and find replacement bulbs if you like. Where did you buy them.

I bet very few if any Xmas tree light are bulbs now. They'll all be led.

WellWillWoll · 03/12/2023 21:52

I got some lights last year that were a horrible orange/pink shade when I got them home, not the warm yellow I was after.

DD and I painted each bulb with acrylic paint. They look lovely now!

ChristmasAgainWTAF · 03/12/2023 21:53

Thank you @HappyHamsters that is very kind. They're LED unfortunately in a retro style casing

Why don't you like led? (Just curious) they are cheaper to run.

ChristmasAgainWTAF · 03/12/2023 21:57

Thank you all. I'll check out the January sales for next year.

@GoingOffOnATangent they're LED with a retro style covering. I'm sorry I wasn't clear, I should have said the leds on own if that makes sense. I want to fake retro.

Also much safer as they don't get hot.

Jellybean23 · 03/12/2023 22:03

As they are LED, they don't give off heat. So can you find some coloured cellophane and stick it over the red lights? Are Quality Street still wrapped in cellophane? Maybe yellow over the red lights will turn them orange?

NashvilleQueen · 03/12/2023 22:06

I would like multi coloured pastel lights. The most delicate of pink, blue, yellow and green. I don't know why no one has designed any yet. They're always far too garish.

MrsMitford3 · 03/12/2023 22:13

picture please

savoycabbage · 03/12/2023 22:20

I've got pastel lights from B&Q.
