Anybody ever had a labiaplasty?

Basically, I am considering one but don't know if it'll be reasonable from my perspective or even worthwhile.

I have quite large labia. They hang down. Not nice to look at, yes, but that is definitely not the only reason why.

I have had a lot of sexual partners. Only one has made a negative comment - to the point he stopped having sex and basically booted me out and proceeded to tell mutual friends about it. A few others have commented "oh thats the biggest I have seen" but it hasn't made a huge difference.

My current partner also says I have an "outie" which is quite significantly larger than any others he has experienced. But again, it hasn't affected our sex life and he is still very much sexually engaging.

In the past I have point blank refused oral simply because I find it embarrassing. Any time I have, I havr not been able to relax fully.

Beyond the appearance, its around 3-4cm protruding down and it gets in the way. Underwear is an issue and it can get "stuck" a lot like a foreskin and it becomes painful. They can move and you need to go to the bathroom to fix yourself so you dont end up shafed which is also painful.

Cycling is a big no no and is far too painful. Running for prolonged periods also caused a lot of pain due to shafing.

Are these all valid points to consider? I know I likely will need to go private so it will be a huge expense.

Has anybody had one before and known what it was like?

Hi Ellie, did you progress this? I’m thinking of getting mine done, similar reasons to you. I’ve been looking at prices here and abroad (Europe - not Turkey!! - apparently Prague and Lithuania is a good spot for this surgery but ) - ideally I’ll have it in the UK as I’m worried about infection afterwards. It’s around £2k to £3k here.

Can be done under local or general - I’d prefer a local TBH as I feel sick after general, plus it’s a better recovery time.

Unsure how to broach this with my DH. He’s never commented but obviously must have noticed!

Westfacing · 05/02/2024 12:59

Good god, who in the UK is offering a labiaplasty at that cheap price!

I'm sorry you're both suffering but do think carefully before going ahead. I worked for many years in a major private hospital and only know of two women who had this procedure, both under GA. I would urge you to privately see an NHS plastic surgeon, not just any old cosmetic surgeon.

Barleysugar86 · 05/02/2024 13:01

Have you asked if it's possible on the NHS? If it's causing chafing etc you are enquiring for medical reasons. They will consider breast reductions so I imagine it's a similar thing for them.

Barleysugar86 · 05/02/2024 13:03

Or- depending on your embarrassment level- this sounds like the sort of thing embarrassing bodies would fund!

Ginandjuice57884 · 05/02/2024 13:03

Mine aren't quite as pronounced as yours but I have "outies" as well so I understand your struggles. Have to tuck myself in frequently to be more comfortable. I have considered it but never really got further than that. If they make you that miserable and you can find a decent surgeon I don't see why not.

Bus100bus100 · 05/02/2024 13:17

OMG this is me. Mine hang down and are embarrassing for sex and uncomfortable in life. Oral is def no as waaaay too embarrassing. When my DC were younger, and curious, they would try to watch me on the loo and say I had a willy. Wearing swim wear is terrible as I have a bulge. I often wonder if people see the bulge and think am a man to woman transgender. Wearing lacey knickers means they get caught in the lace and it hurts like crazy. I wouldn't go abroad for surgery but would have it done by a registered plastic surgeon the uk but I don't have the money. I have considered going to the drs to see if they would do it on the NHS. Walking about at home with no undies on I can feel them rubbing. I have body dysmorphia, to some extent, and have regularly considering cutting them off with scissors. Of course I will never do that.
Embarrassing is not the word. My vagina looks ugly, fucking ugly and I hate it. I quickly tuck them in when in bed with DH and he's about to put his hands down there. They quickly untuck themselves. I could never imagine anyone other than DH and a surgeon seeing them.
The size of them really get me down. horrific.

@Barleysugar86 that's helpful. As if the OP is going to go on national TV for all to see, FGS.

That’s how I’d feel- although my embarrassment level would tap out with any kind of clothed tv appearance too- but plenty of people do seem to be fine with the idea as the show has run for ages. The existence of naked attractipn still baffles me. I don’t know the OP.

Startyabastard · 05/02/2024 13:42

About 5 years ago I had mine done in the UK (the Circle, Bath) for just under £2000 and they did an excellent job. They are a private hospital and are very professional.

CaptinKitty · 05/02/2024 13:52

Yes I have had labiaplasty, but it was about 15 years ago. Mine was done on the NHS due to them causing pain in the ways you outline in your post.

Recovery was very quick and simple and it’s lovely to not have to worry about things like sitting down slowly/not wearing certain types of underwear incase they get pulled.

Moier · 05/02/2024 14:05

Be careful what you wish for..mine were like this.. l mean really long.. one partner loved them.. turned him on.
Husband didn't mind either way..
I minded for the reasons you give.
They actually do shrink with age.
But unfortunately only one of mine has shrunk.... thankfully I'm 65 and celibate.

Cardinalita90 · 22/02/2024 13:10

Hi OP. Did you get this done? I had a labiaplasty two days ago - paid £3.5k and did lots of research about the clinic/surgeon first. The swelling is a bitch but can't wait for the new confidence it'd going to bring!

mummabubs · 22/02/2024 13:22

Realise this is an old thread but thought I'd chip in as it's not a topic that's talked about often. I chose to have a labiaplasty in 2011 at the age of 23. Paid privately and cost £2300 at the time. For me if I'm honest it was mostly a confidence issue, but there were also situations where I was physically uncomfortable because of it, e.g cycling.

As someone else has said, the swelling and recovery is painful. For me personally it felt like the right choice at the time and I don't regret it, although as the surgeon pre-warned me about I have some degree of sensitivity reduction in that area so sex possibly isn't as enjoyable as it might have been otherwise. The flipside being I don't believe I'd have ever been able to have sex for the first time without the surgery.

Lutricia007 · 23/04/2024 15:54

I am thinking about to get mine done. Same reasosn as mentioned above. I do remember reading somewhere that labia has a purpose as a funnel and if they cut too short then you end up with other problem - wee tickling down after having a pee. Not sure is it correct or not. Will do more research for sure

Curlyblondefemale · 02/05/2024 20:45

Can see this is an old thread but thought I'd share my experience, I had labiaplasty on the NHS 14 years ago. I was uncomfortable riding a bike, got twisted in knickers when walking.
I had my share of sexual partners and never had a negative reaction.
I discussed with the surgeon before hand and he explained that removing them so they were completely inside would look odd because the surrounding area didn't have enough plumpness and it would have left a weird gap. I had them so they were level with the outer labia. Very pleased with the result.
Not going to lie the recovery was painful!! But short.. 4 weeks I had no pain, it took a few months for the swelling to subside and see the final result.

ManchesterBeatrice · 03/05/2024 19:12

I didn't know they could be long like that, sounds so uncomfortable.

I'd 100% do it.

ArcticBells · 03/05/2024 19:22

I had a labiaplasty a few years ago. I wanted one side trimmed but he basically amputated the entire labia minora on that side which is not what we'd agreed on and I wasn't happy about. However, I had it done under local anaesthetic and drove home afterwards. Had it done on a Saturday and went to work on the Monday with no issues but feeling a bit sore. Cost about £4,000

Icantbedoingwithit · 03/05/2024 19:43

Can I ask if this is labia minora or majora? My labia majora are quite long and I hate them. Everything else is tucked away and small but they are quite long and I have an obvious camel toe in leggings etc. I remember an ex mentioning “your flaps are so long”. I have been so self conscious ever since.

Labia minora, I've had mine trimmed.
Men can be such tossers sometimes, I know I've played into this way of thinking by having surgery so I probably sound hypocritical but seriously they want to take a look in the mirror at what they have dangling between their legs, it's not that pretty!

Iloveanicegarden · 03/05/2024 21:57

Careful what you wish for.... I've got Lichen Sclerosis and my labia minora have all but melted away, my clit is now on it's way too.

44PumpLane · 03/05/2024 22:19

There is an episode of Olivia Atwood: The Price of Perfection on itvX where someone has a labiaplasty- the whole episode on vaginas/vulvas is a good watch.

Lichen Sclerosis is absolutely horrific. My sister has it. My heart goes out to you x
