I have a close friend who I've known for years. I always ask how her dcs are and if they are not happy or going through a difficult time I'd be supportive.
I've noticed over the past year that df never asks about my dcs much. She asked how we all were today i think as a generic question and I replied with some supportive advice for her ds (going through exams) and mentioned my middle dd having a difficult time at school with a boy hitting her. Df replied with just "x will be fine in the exams..etc" and didn't bother to ask about dd.
