What have you washed in the washing machine by mistake?

My dh's work trousers have a lot of pockets and sometimes I miss one.

I find this out when something starts clicking in the washing machine.

Last week I washed a lighter (dh doesn't smoke...) and the key to my car, battery and all.

Both items still work, so I'm not sure how effective my washing machine is.

What is the weirdest thing you have washed in the machine, by accident or design?

My husband is a farmer so I E have washed all sorts of crap. Sometimes intentionally 😅

Baler twine, gun cartridges (empty thankfully!), wheat and barley grains. So much wheat! Etcetera

Most disgusting wasnt his fault though. One morning after removing toddler and dirty nappy from sleepsuit, chucked sleepsuit and a load in washer to then see little poos in the window. I had one of those Samsungs with the little door you can open mid wash so I paused the machine and tried to fish out the poos. Thought I'd got them all. I hadn't. Toddler thought it very amusing to see his poos going round and round 🤦‍♀️

Dh’s betting slip which was a winner 😂 was about 20 years ago and he’s never let me live it down! Him and a friend went out one Saturday and put a couple of bets on, never mentioned it (he’s not really a better but will have the occasional flutter), shoved his jeans in the wash. His mate called him the next day to say they’d won. Oops!! Would have been about 2 grand each 🫣😂

Oh bum. Sorry for you. Wonder if the house insurance would have paid out.

I pulled some washing out the machine and one of my shoes fell out. I must have scooped it up with the washing as I used to just throw it from the basket into a pile on the floor. Good leather Clark’s shoe and it was fine for a few more years.

Did you wash the other so they would match?

Phone that was inside a duvet cover. Totally goosed.

Wrecked a beautiful jumper that had a row of large sequins down the front. Sequins tangled up and ripped the fabric. Don't know what I was thinking!.

Was the jumper supposed to be dry clean only?!

A diesel soaked rag mixed in with regular clothes.

Cue ~20 washes in vinegar, and in between putting bicarbonate of soda in the drum, and also constantly washing the affected clothes in buckets of washing up liquid and hanging them up to dry outside on between each cycle.

It took me 10 days to get rid of the smell enough for me to be happy to wear the clothes again. Utterly awful.

DON'T PUT ANY DIESELLY IN THE WASHING MACHINE.

Oh I've had that with petrol as dh has a chain saw. Awful, I agree.

Pretty bad but my aunt washed her pet ferrit. It must have gone on there to sleep and she didn’t see it. Felt terrible after.

My son's coursework on a memory stick, hot whites wash as it was in his school shirt pocket.
Put it into the airing cupboard for a lie-down in a warm dark place and was fine [phew!]

Many years ago, DS1's USB stick with all his GCSE coursework on it... 😬
Realised what had happened and left it in a bowl of rice, then checked it the next day in my laptop to make sure it was OK. Luckily all his work was safely there.... (plus a folder called "Cheryl" which was a load of photos of Cheryl Cole...... 😂

Ahh wouldn’t have even considered it to be honest. Doubt it though! I will say, he’s been more careful about leaving stuff in his pockets ever since!
I did also once wash his cashmere jumper in the machine though on a regular cycle - it was donated to my then 6 year old sister 😂

Lol no I stood watching it for ages thinking how am I going to break it to him that the cigs he’s looking for are in the washing machine, we didn’t even live in town then so had to drive to nearest place to buy some more 🙈

@ChangeNameLikeIChangeSocks It was hand wash only!!. I used to work with a girl who spent a fortune on clothes, wore something once, then used to give them to me, so at least I hadn't spent a fortune!

various lighters, opened pack of cigarettes - similar mess to tissues but with tobacco everywhere instead of paper pulp.
Touch wood nothing too terrible, but I have a customer who's wife washed his Rolex that he had left in his pocket "for safety"
She had scooped his jeans up while he was in the shower and put them in the wash.
It has some scratches and scuff marks but was otherwise fine.
