What have you washed in the washing machine by mistake?

My dh's work trousers have a lot of pockets and sometimes I miss one.

I find this out when something starts clicking in the washing machine.

Last week I washed a lighter (dh doesn't smoke...) and the key to my car, battery and all.

Both items still work, so I'm not sure how effective my washing machine is.

What is the weirdest thing you have washed in the machine, by accident or design?

An iPod

Ducksurprise · 02/12/2023 22:16

A chromebook, I put it in the.basket to take downstairs...

Money- I accept it as a tip.
Tissues all the bloody time

Zippedydoodahday · 02/12/2023 22:17

Galaxy ear buds, not in the box Left them for a month or so after assuming they'd be dead. Went to chuck them away and thought I'd try charging them up on the off-chance first, and they work perfectly well still.

Got covered in mud on a walk, threw everything in the wash and forgot to empty my pockets so lots of (empty!) poo bags got wrapped in that filter. Previously, I washed tissues, then found paperclips and 5p pieces there. Bits of bamboo, my big wash basket is made of it and bits occasionally fall in.

I understand the filter needs to be at the bottom, gravity and all, but what a pita! Couldn’t close it for ages trying to untangle the poo bags!

My hearing aids left in the pocket of my trousers, they went through the Tumble dryer too. Amazingly they still work!!

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 02/12/2023 22:18

A blanket my MIL had asked her Sister to knit. It was a wedding ring blanket so it was very fine and so intricate.

I washed it and it was all felted. Felt horrendous

HerbalBovril · 02/12/2023 22:18

$70 worth of “Return and Earn” tickets. 😩

SgtJuneAckland · 02/12/2023 22:19

Playmobil people, I didn't realise until I saw two little faces through the glass

DHs wallet. The money was ok, a security pass he needed for an important meeting the next day did not survive.

Lego makes a dreadful noise but usually comes out undamaged.

A library book which got buried in the sheets. The librarian just laughed when I took the remains to confess.

Never, ever, put a large stick of licorice in a hot wash. Just don't.

PuttingDownRoots · 02/12/2023 22:36

Wedding certificate. We had been married 3 weeks.

It didn't survive.

IVFlife · 02/12/2023 22:36

A nappy and a swim nappy. Both when I worked in childcare.

Nappy was a bloody mess to clean up.

Swim nappy made me realise could use them more than once ...

The remote control to the fan in our bedroom - DH likes to be cool and white noise to help him sleep. It used to get hidden in his pillow case and went through the wash on about 4 separate occasions before it finally died, sorry, mysteriously stopped working. 🤔I keep meaning to leave a 5 star Amazon review for it as I’m impressed it lasted for so long…

casuarinatree · 02/12/2023 22:41

DH's car key - twice. We took it apart to dry out both times afterwards and it was fine. I do wish he'd put it on another set of keys though so it would be a bit more obvious (both times it's been in the back pocket of a cycling jersey which I never think to check).

JenniferJupiterVenusandMars · 02/12/2023 22:46

Over the years umpteen clean dog poo bags, a knife and fork, miscellaneous toys, various screws, nails etc from dh not emptying his pockets properly, a torch and one child’s welly boot.

seven201 · 02/12/2023 22:49

IPhone and a pretty new kindle paper white - seperate incidents. Both died after being bundled in the wash with my duvet cover. Endless tissues from pockets.

I'm still mad 20 years later that when back for a visit home from uni my mum decided to wash my favourite going out top (silk cami from h&m) and shrunk it.

Theunamedcat · 02/12/2023 22:53

An incontinence pad the mess was amazing

Never tumble dry them that wasn't me but I helped clean up the sticky mess

Saralyn · 02/12/2023 22:54

A mobile phone. On 60 degrees.
Took 30 minutes before I managed to stop the cycle, drain the water and open the door.

It was one of those mid 2000’s Nokias, so I just let it dry and then used it for another couple of years.

PickAChew · 02/12/2023 22:56

Also things in DH's pockets including a watch, earphones and an mp3 player. A grown man should be checking his own pockets before putting clothes in the wash. You're not his mum.

swapcicles · 02/12/2023 22:57

My fitbit- great number of steps that day 😁
Tissues fairly frequently
Pens, paperwork left in back pocket, chewing gums and lip balms

MeinKraft · 02/12/2023 22:57

My sons cochlear implant processor 😬

coxesorangepippin · 02/12/2023 22:58

Usb key

It was fine

steff13 · 02/12/2023 22:58

Oh, a (clean) diaper one time! It exploded and that jelly stuff was all over the clothes.

Changednayme · 02/12/2023 22:59

I ruined £200 worth of second hand vintage wool clothes recently by doing a hot wash. I thought it was fake wool

SwordToFlamethrower · 02/12/2023 23:00

A disposable nappy full of 💩💩💩

Thejackrussellsrule · 02/12/2023 23:01

Airpods and earphones (multiple occasions!) Money (notes and coins) sandpaper, screws, miscellaneous items such as snap blades, (husband is a Decorator) dog toys and the dog's bone! (That did make a racket!)
