Sleep

Posting here for traffic.

Yet again it's 4am and I've been wide awake since 1.30am, having gone to bed at 9.30pm. I'll probably fall asleep again around 5.30am and then get woken up by the toddler at 7am.

Why is my body doing this to me? How can I get back to enjoying 8 hours unbroken sleep??

Are you going to be too early?

I hear you OP, haven’t been to sleep yet, have chronic initial insomnia, can’t drop off, it’s torturous, I try to stay calm as have been like this for years but it’s lonely being wide awake with racing thoughts, am so tired but head won’t switch off

A wave of solidarity here!

I was awake from 4am yesterday so was exhausted by 8:30pm. Went to bed, been up since 1. It’s so annoying.

I've been on a similar pattern most of this year, also with a toddler, it was really frustrating and affecting my work and health.
Things like only trying to sleep within a set 8 hour window, no early nights, naps or lie-ins, and making sure I get exercise helped a bit but I got run down and ill despite healthy eating, vitamins etc.
Then I had a random craving for red meat (which my husband had been cutting down on affecting family eating). Two nights of a lamb curry and a beef casserole and I noticed I had my best sleeps in ages.
So I've carried on making an effort to eat lamb or beef every few days and am no longer having such bad split nights, instead sleeping at least six hours in one go before waking. Now sleeping 8-9pm til 3-5am so still not ideal but much better than waking at 1am like before, especially as toddler wakes 4-5am sometimes, and I think from here I can gradually adjust the hours.
Hope you find something that helps you.
