To think Ferrero Rocher chocolates are boring?

I don't mind them as such but I getting a box of the SAME chocolate, boring.
And they keep bringing them out every year.
AIBU to dislike getting them for a gift and to give hints for something a bit nice such as Hotel Chocolat.

They're shit !!! Last chocolate I'd buy TBH unless the alternative had raisins or currants 🤢

Flufferblub · 02/12/2023 03:43

I like them, but I haven't had them for ages

madeinmanc · 02/12/2023 03:47

They're fine as a generic gift to someone you don't really know like a colleague or the postman but I'd be disappointed in them from a relative or boyfriend/husband.

Monty27 · 02/12/2023 03:53

Yeh they've gone down marche for sure. They have been out marketed but I don't mind them either but wouldn't want them as a Christmas present.

BarbaraofSeville · 02/12/2023 04:00

I like them. In fact they're the only 'cheap' chocolates that I like. Plus dark mints, Bendicks, After Eights etc.

Otherwise, Hotel Chocolat or proper naice ones, although I wasn't impressed by MN favourites Audreys when I tried them recently - meh tasting, plus they contained palm oil and had a suspiciously long use by date.

But seeing as you don't like FR and have a problem that 'they' keep buying you, you have 2 choices.

Either keep accepting them graciously (this is the problem with politely accepting gifts you don't like, it fools people into thinking you like whatever you have bought them and they keep buying it, I have the same problem with DSis and sweet pink wine. But at least I have a reliable supply of raffle prizes when the opportunity arises).

Or you tell them that you don't like them and would rather have X instead. But this is a situation where honesty generally doesn't go down well.

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 02/12/2023 05:06

I feel this way about Maltesers.

isthismylifenow · 02/12/2023 05:13

They are not my first (or even close to the top) of choices, but have had some given every few years.

Then I think, oh the boring chocolate and open one because they are there. Then realise thst I scoffed three on the trot, because let's face it, they are a little bit moreish.

I wouldn't buy them, but a box has never gone uneaten.

MassageForLife · 02/12/2023 05:17

Most chocolates are boring tbf. It's a gift people buy for someone they don't know well enough to get something they would really like.

Mirrormeback · 02/12/2023 05:25

I like them. I'm not really a chocolate person so I'm happy to have them around at Christmas. There are a lot worse chocolates around

I had to ask a family member to stop gifting me Hotel Chocolat gift boxes at Christmas because I just don't like them

I like the Elizabeth Shaw mint ones too

I think it's about what you liked as a child a lot of the time

My favourites are Leonidas Gianduja which I'll be buying a huge box of for my DM because she's having surgery and she's a huge chocoholic as is DD

Mothership4two · 02/12/2023 06:59

They are my SIL's favourite chocolates and DS likes them. I don't get them at all. I do love Maltesers though. Gently hinted to DM to not gift Thorntons to us - usually every member gets some in some form and none of us are that impressed with the taste/quality.

Mothership4two · 02/12/2023 07:03

Can I hijack thread to ask (out of interest) what chocolate would people be thrilled to find in their Christmas stocking?

My all time favourite is Green and Black's Sea Salt chocolate bar (not always easy to find) closely followed by Bendicks Bittermints.

DustyLee123 · 02/12/2023 07:04

Hotel Chocolate is crap, just like Thorntons. Send all your Ferrero Rocher to me, where they will be appreciated.

ouch44 · 02/12/2023 07:12

I would actually love to get FR in my stocking!! We really like them in our house. Those and After Eights are probably the only chocolates we buy regularly and we have to hide them! Not keen on hotel chocolate. We also love Maltesers.
Occasionally we'll get or gift some Lauden chocolates

Jewelanemone · 02/12/2023 07:15

Bloody awful things (however the white ones aren't too bad). They're the wrong size, and no self-respecting chocolate should EVER contain wafer or biscuit of any kind. I'm looking at you, Kit Kat. And Twix.

newnamethanks · 02/12/2023 07:16

They are horrible. I'd put money on the likelihood of a disturbing international incident arising if any ambassador handed them out at a party. Cant bear the texture, not keen on the flavour.

MinnieMountain · 02/12/2023 07:19

I love them. Each to their own.

Peepshowcreepshow · 02/12/2023 07:21

Don't know about boring but they are vile. I cannot stand hazelnut chocolate and as they are the reasonably priced car of the chocolate world, they are something I am given quite often. Bloody hate them. Id bite your hand off for a box of maltesers though, I do like those (although the only chocolate in stockings here is a chocolate orange).
