She is staying over with us for 2 weeks. Unfortunately caught a virus from me snd I or DH. She started with it on Sunday but despite having a sore throat continued to go out socially and was just necking paracetamol 24/7. On Tuesday however it then went into a headache, a vomiting attack and now endless coughing and I mean endless. Also gone completely deaf in both ears to the point where she literally cannot hear anything we are saying to her. She is not a smoker, has no underlying health conditions and is in her thirties. Aibu to say this all seems extreme and she should see a GP? Even DH who is immune compressed was not throwing up or coughing to this extent? If anything it seems like she has gotten worse

YANBU. The other symptoms could be caused by one of the awful viruses that have proliferated recently, but sudden deafness is a medical emergency and should be checked out asap.

LauderSyme · 01/12/2023 22:10

Is she resistant to seeing a doctor?

Baublewarble · 01/12/2023 22:11

When you say ‘necking paracetamol’ could she have overdosed?

HundredMilesAnHour · 01/12/2023 22:12

Has she taken a Covid test?

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 01/12/2023 22:13

How much paracetamol was she taking?

idontlikealdi · 01/12/2023 22:14

Coughing a lot can cause issue with ear pressure

Hbh17 · 01/12/2023 22:15

Maybe she does, maybe she doesn't. But it is her decision - nobody else's.

WetBandits · 01/12/2023 22:19

I had flu last year (missed my bloody jab) and was coughing, vomiting, had a horrific headache and went deaf in both ears towards the tail end! Three weeks of misery.

Tistheseason17 · 01/12/2023 22:27

Tell her to call 111 who will assess her and direct her to the most appropriate service - most likely an out of hours doctor this weekend. Don't wait til Monday.

organicbox · 01/12/2023 23:15

Overdosing on paracetamol can cause deafness, and can have very delayed consequences. If she's taken over the stated dose she MUST see a medic. Even if it was days ago.

IceAndLemonPlease · 02/12/2023 09:35

She is refusing.
Day six now and coughing literally all night and this morning too. Getting worse if anything which is not normal but won’t do a thing about it.
She was as I said socialising when she had a sore throat and was taking 8 paracetamols per day often in quick succession.
As I said, me and DH have been bad with it but there was a gradual improvement after five days or so even if small. With her it’s just getting worse..

You must be worried about her - and irritated with her constant coughing!

I think she is being foolish but if being this poorly doesn't motivate her to see a doctor, I am not sure what will.

Hopefully it is "just" a nasty virus and the deafness is attributable to that.
