To ask what you would do - moving house

Evening! We are putting our house up for sale in the new year and moving to a city 2 hours away. The city is really expensive so there won’t be a lot of choice within our budget however I have today seen our ideal house come up. Without boring you with details it has a unique feature that we really wanted but assumed we wouldn’t get, it’s a rare find. What would you do if you were me? List straight away and hope for the best? Go and view even though it’s a long way away and we’re not on the market yet? Nothing at all and just let it go? Thanks

Contact the estate agent. They may not even let you view if you aren’t already on the market/had an offer. So it might all be moot anyway.

Poppyseed14 · 01/12/2023 20:16

What is this special feature?

Daffidale · 01/12/2023 20:18

Go view it at least. Not everyone has their house on the market before finding somewhere to buy. Just be prepared to list quickly if you like it.

Aquamarine1029 · 01/12/2023 20:19

It's only two hours away. Go see the house and the neighbourhood to make sure it's something you're actually interested in.

Naptrappedmummy · 01/12/2023 20:20

Just to add we know the city very well and have lived there before so know the area where the house is.

Honestly? Assume you don’t have a prayer of getting it and just carry on with your current plans. If it’s still on the market after Christmas, then you can strike like a ninja.

You still need to see the neighbourhood. With sharp eyes.

WonderingWanda · 01/12/2023 20:26

Go and view in the morning and if you like it list immediately

spookehtooth · 01/12/2023 20:31

Nothing to lose, check you can view without an offer or listing yet and if you can then get started by going for a viewing asap and see if it works out

Coconutter24 · 01/12/2023 20:32

You need to get the ball rolling with your house. Is there any point in travelling for a couple of hours each way to view a house when you’re not in a position to put an offer in. You may find you take a day out to visit this house fall in love but can’t actually do anything and then the house gets sold. I made the mistake of viewing 2 houses before I was in a position to do anything they then went and it just felt like a waste of time

Didimum · 01/12/2023 21:04

We saw our dream house before ours was on the market. We viewed it, then put our house on the market, viewed it again, got an offer, offered on the dream house and got it.

Allotmenthelp · 01/12/2023 21:13

We viewed our perfect house when ours wasn’t on the market. They let us view and I offered the full asking. Obviously they didn’t accept as ours wasn’t for sale but they appreciated it wasn’t a cheeky bid and wished us luck. I went home and absolutely threw myself into getting the house ready for viewings, I got a professional deep clean, hid all the rubbish in the loft and listed it the next day. Luckily we sold to the first viewers who were first time buyers and we got the house.

I know we were really lucky but you could be too, good luck!

Naptrappedmummy · 01/12/2023 22:57

Thank you all. That’s what I wondered I suppose, if there was a way of registering our interest just in case it doesn’t go, or if that’s not the done thing. We could theoretically list anytime from next week but equally I don’t want our house to have hung around on the market for a month by the time the new year surge happens.

If you have your own car

Make a bag or box of essentials to go in your car

Purse
Mobile phone & chargers
Passport & important paperwork
Toilet roll
Photograph meter readings before you leave electricity, gas, water
Set up mail redirection with Royal Mail
Kettle, milk, coffee, teabags, other drinks
Order takeaway or make packed lunch or easy to eat food on moving day
Keys

Label all other boxes with room & what's in

Good luck

Thanks Butter hopefully that will come in handy if we do get it! Grin

Thanks for the advice, I’ve emailed the agent to say we’re interested and will be listing in a few weeks so please can we view if it isn’t gone then. Fingers crossed 🤞🏻
