Dates

Every Christmas for the last 38 years I have bought and gifted to family and friends these dates which I fill with marzipan, nuts and chocolate. It has always been a tradition.

This year, I can't find them anywhere in the shops. I can buy packets/ bags of dates and stuff them but rather liked the oval boxes with lids.

Any ideas knowledgeable Mnetters where these can be purchased before I have to resign my self to accepting the end of these traditional home made gifts?

Posting here for traffic. Thanks in Anticipation.

We buy ours from a traditional greengrocers in town, the ones with all the loose fruit and veg 😋

Sadly many traditional greengrocers in our area have gone. I may have to go further afield. Only suppliers on the web I've found do them wholesale, minimum order 100 or are charging triple the price.

Sorry can’t help but I remember these and used to love them! Thanks for the reminder and I’ll be looking for them too

If you can't get the exact ones, maybe buy the best dates you can get from a good Supermarket, do your magic with them and then pack them into gift boxes. I'm thinking the long boxes you'd maybe put a necklace in? Some nice wax paper in the box should stop the moistness of the dates seeping into the cardboard.

Maybe try ocado???

Thanks for Waitrose. I found them on their website today, but were not there 3 weeks ago when I looast looked. Obviously seasonally.

Tried to buy them a few weeks ago from Fresh food to you. Paid the order then had money returned next day with an email saying they were only wholesale.

@divinededacende - thank you for your suggestions. I had thought of bulk buying the dates and making my own but sadly couldn't find decent enough boxes with lids.

When I finish work in the morning I'm off to Waitrose for a trolly load of dates 😊

Did you find the dates and make your gifts OP? I bought some Waitrose brand dates yesterday but they’re not as good as the Eat Me ones!

Holland and Barrett another option. They used to (maybe still do) sell chocolate covered dates. Delish.

Holy shit, I've time travelled back to Christmas 1985! 😂😂

I've no idea where might stock these because I've been gone from UK for 16 years but my god these are a blast from the past!
