To wish my cleaner would stop with the reminders?

I have a cleaner who cleans my flat on a fortnightly basis. Usually I'm at work when she comes, but we've always got on really well on the occasions I've caught her. I'm really considerate and always have my place tidy and ready for her to clean. I'm always flexible and genuinely really appreciate her.
One thing I've genuinely never let her down with is payment. The money will always be transferred on the evening of the day she has come. I've never let her down on this, not once.
Today I bumped into her as she was leaving my place and I was getting home from work. Two hours later, when I was in the middle of making the kids' dinner, there was a message from her asking me to pay. I don't think there's any need for this, when I'm trustworthy and reliable every single time.
I don't set up a standing order because I'd rather just pay on the day she comes. This keeps me right in case she ever has to change day.

You should have paid her straight away, why did you wait? There is uncertainty in the wait.
You sound very full of yourself like you need praise because you pay her??

I have not seen anywhere what the agreed arrangements are for you to make this comment?
If the OP say worked shifts and came back at 10pm she could pay then , if that's the arrangement?
Anyway I think these are just automatic reminders and paying that evening is fine, unless something else has been agreed

Nicparke · 01/12/2023 15:51

I don't think you're being unreasonable but I don't think she is either.

She may have needed to get food for her children or something and needed that money at that moment

You never know peoples circumstances

Beenalongwinter · 01/12/2023 16:13

My cleaner tells me I am the only client who pays her as soon as she has finished.
She hates having to send reminders because she is often waiting to buy food, pet supplies or fuel for her car.
The poster who mentioned begging probably meant it wrong to have to beg for payment not that she thought cleaning for payment was like begging.

Possumzilla · 01/12/2023 19:42

One reminder? Get over it lol

Missybee88 · 02/12/2023 10:27

Why should she wait for when YOU are ready to pay? It’s rude. She’s done a job for you, her end of the transaction is done, so pay her while she is there! It doesn’t matter what her reason for messaging is, it doesn’t matter wether she’s desperate for the money or not, that’s no one’s business and not relevant! Do the decent thing and pay her before she leaves.

You wouldn’t go to a salon and say can I pay you tonight after I’ve sorted my kids out, after you’ve sat in the chair for hours and had your hair done? You do it there and then before you leave. Same principle.

Digestivechocolate · 02/12/2023 21:11

Maybe she was out shopping and needed to buy food? And she might live pay day to pay day? . Why not pay her before you start tea if she's already done her job for you? Do you know her circumstances regarding money?

Still find this odd
Have had 3 cleaners over the years, paid in cash left out, no problem. They are paid therefore as they start / finish

But if you want to be paid by bank transfer and have never asked for it to be before you start, then how can it be paid as you leave? Your client is probably at work therefore paying that evening has to be reasonable

If the cleaner wants to be paid in cash or other terms they need to specify this. Otherwise that evening is in no way unreasonable!

@CrashyTime people who wait a month have a singular employer, who usually is bound to pay you and can't skip the consequence of not paying.

And anyway most of you are acting like the cleaner is demanding thousands. You Obviously don't have one.

If you are busy enough to need or want a cleaner then it means you are busy making money And if you're making money the cleaners bill would be insignificant to you.

If it's less then 150pw what are you crying about, because she wants her money. She should have it, the latest, on completion of work.

You seem like the same clown who's hire cowboy builders and pay upfront and be proud.

I pay my cleaner upfront and in advance 1month. For both of my houses because I appreciate her.

Erm no! My dh is a freelancer. He has many different employers, the earliest they'll pay him is 30 days after receiving his invoice.

I'm not for a minute suggesting that it should be the same for domestic cleaners, - just wanting to clear up an untruth on the thread.

I'm a bit fed up with people commenting "oh I just leave cash" as OP has said that their cleaner does not want cash.

@YerArseInParsley

But OP doesn't need to be chased she's said she never misses a payment and always pays that evening.

But the OP also says that she is sent reminders regularly.

How is the cleaner supposed to know she didn't need the reminder?

The cleaner sends a reminder then the OP pays. Of course the cleaner thinks the reminder is needed.

I need to reread the post, I misses the part where op said she usually gets reminders. Why would op be shocked at getting the reminder if she's used to getting reminders?

marcopront · 04/12/2023 16:01

@YerArseInParsley

On Tuesday evening the OP said

Of course it hasn't been just the once

I don't understand what the big deal is then?

I think the cleaner is just supposed to know that the OP is going to pay her without the reminders.

YerArseInParsley · 07/12/2023 00:41

The op said she always pays her the evening that she's been so if op really does pay her that night then I don't see any need for reminders unless it's a send to all clients text or op doesn't always pay on time.

The OP always pays her in the evening after she has been sent a reminder.
How is the cleaner supposed to know it is not because of the reminder?

I haven't read all her comments, did she say she pays after the reminder? It doesn't say that in her original post. Why would she be shocked at getting a reminder if she usually gets reminders? It doesn't make sense.

I'm out lol

If she was getting reminders despite having paid, she would be moaning more so it makes sense she pays after the reminders.

I think the issue she knows she has to pay but the cleaner doesn't realise that.
