To think Beyonce has bleached her skin? :(

I'm baffled by the most recent picture of her in contrast to pictures of her from years ago. She had beautiful golden brown skin and now she looks Caucasian.

Nicki Minaj and Lil Kim did it so it's not unheard of, but why? What example is that setting to her black and brown fans?

one Of the articles says she had heavily contoured make-up , which explains the different look of her features, but not the colour of her skin (especially as it’s not just lighter on her face)
At first glance I thought it was the younger Kardashian (the make up one)

Orangeandgold · 28/11/2023 19:20

Skin bleaching is shockingly common with celebs. I won’t be surprised if she has been. She does look very different.

MarleyandMarleyWoo · 28/11/2023 19:22

I honestly wouldn’t have recognised her from those photos.. I’d like to think it’s just odd lighting and perhaps heavier / different make up techniques. Hope so anyway!

Blimey. I really hope that isn't skin-bleaching. I wouldn't have recognised her in that picture. I'm not entirely convinced that skin-bleaching could actually achieve that look though. Where were the pictures published? A lot of publications are notorious for photographing/editing women of colour in ways that make them look lighter-skinned. Or is it meant to make a satirical point about 'blackfishing' or something like that?

I'm actually wondering now if it's AI-generated.

EDIT: Just seen the follow-up posts with the context. No idea whether she's been bleaching her skin, but even if she has, I suspect she doesn't look quite as light as that in real life. I think the lighting and photography has (as it sadly often the case) been set up with white women in mind, which happens a lot with fashion type events. The shiny background isn't helping either, as it reflects a lot of light back. But it's all very odd.

Edited

It's not AI generated. The pictures are in vogue and on the make up artists social media.

You'd be surprised what skin bleaching can do. Here's a before and after of Nicki Minaj for example.

I don't understand why and how they bleach their skin Is it full body bleaching ? I saw footage of Beyonce and her Dd dancing on her tour and Beyonce was definitely her usual skin tone . it it maybe make up?

We live in a society that praises whiteness above everything else and simultaneously admonishes black women for being a bad example if they succumb to the pressure.

Mad isn't it.. same with society punishing women for getting old but then also for getting botox etc..
Women can't win basically. Always need to feel we need to change.

It’s just editing.

Women can’t win whatever they do. Didn’t Arianna Grande go darker and got loads of stick. It maybe make up or lights but as long as she is ok with it.

CharlotteStreetW1 · 28/11/2023 19:31

I'd be interested to see who google lens thinks she is 😄

(Although I imagine the image has now been shown so much, it will already know. I don't have the app.)

I noted the line "Brown skin girl is more than a skin colour"

Why does she feel the need to say that? It feels a bit like she's saying that she can still be a brown skin girl if her skin isn't brown.

She does look alot lighter than she normally normally is, but I think it's lighting, make up and editing. Also the white hair will be draining her too!! And yeah she looks like a kardashian

QuacketyQuack · 28/11/2023 19:47

It's lighting, make up, and the silver hair. GET OVER IT

TroglodytesTroglodytes · 28/11/2023 19:52

Agree that it is lighting of photo editing. I’ve seen people irl that have bleached their skin and it looks patchy, peeling and definitely not flawless like those photos.

itsmylife7 · 28/11/2023 19:58

Beyonce's Mum is absolutely gorgeous.

Beyonce's Mum is absolutely gorgeous.

She is, absolutely stunning and a very astute business woman.

Nevermind31 · 28/11/2023 20:15

Looks like a genetic Kardashian

I think that image is photoshopped to an extreme extent.

Pippin2028 · 28/11/2023 20:17

I did see on tiktok this was for her Renaissance world film Premier but she used a private entrance so I think she had full control of the photos that went out so they may have lightened her or filtered her for the photos that were released. I thought it was Kim kardashian too at first and did not recognise as beyonce! She is such an icon for so many so hopefully she has not resorted to this especially as a big part of her message is been about who you want to be and to be proud of it

tttigress · 28/11/2023 20:19

I imagine it is the way the photo has been filtered.

Not sure why someone said "it's the way the photo editor wanted it". Beyonce will have had total control.

OneTC · 28/11/2023 20:25

The photographer has shot her loads over the years, and she's looked very different in many of them

That's make up and lighting, and a fully intentional look

CaroleSinger · 28/11/2023 20:34

Michael Jackson always denied lightening his skin. He even put it down to vitiligo assuming the world wouldn't know vitiligo doesn't make the entire body white. Turned out he had used skin lightening creams half of his life to tone down the bits not effected by the vitiligo. His own mother said she didn't know how he did it. No stars ever admit doing it. It is denied because otherwise there would be questions about being ashamed of skin colour. Do I think Beyonce does it? Probably, yes.

Noimnotstillonmumsne · 28/11/2023 20:45

Her mum has clarified on insta that she has not and has never bleached her skin. Everyone who has seen her recently can see that. She was going for a silver look/theme.

She has also flagged up the audacity of white women feeling entitled to discuss her blackness.

As a black woman I agree with Queen B’s mum that you don’t need to wring your hands over how her black fans feel if you aren’t black yourself OP. Beyonce has done nothing but good for our community.

YABU

Benibidibici · 28/11/2023 20:48

No idea about bleachimg skin but persomal opinion - she looked prettier with the more natural dark curly hair

Sad4333 · 28/11/2023 22:02

Why on earth would she want/allow the pictures to be edited in a way that makes her so pale?

Also for the PP mentioning white women feeling entitled to discuss her blackness, I'm not white. I'm mixed race, hence my disappointment at the possibility that she had done something to lighten her skin.
