To think Beyonce has bleached her skin? :(

I'm baffled by the most recent picture of her in contrast to pictures of her from years ago. She had beautiful golden brown skin and now she looks Caucasian.

Nicki Minaj and Lil Kim did it so it's not unheard of, but why? What example is that setting to her black and brown fans?

YABU for not posting the photo you're referring to.

Could be a very weird filter/photo editing thing? I didn’t recognise her though! She looks very different.

CharityShopChic · 28/11/2023 19:09

I wouldn't have recognised that as Beyonce.

TomatoSandwiches · 28/11/2023 19:10

It's probably an edit, can't imagine her bleaching

Sad4333 · 28/11/2023 19:10

This is her in 2011, she's unrecognisable.

I doubt she bleaches her skin - it’s just the way the picture editor wants to present her.

She looks like kim Kardashian at a quick glance.

Jewelspun · 28/11/2023 19:12

For years she has been denying that she's lightened her skin but every year she gets lighter and lighter.

flowerygloves · 28/11/2023 19:12

if she hasn't then this is a bit nasty OP

DoloresDoors · 28/11/2023 19:12

Is that picture definitely Beyoncé? What's the source?

Deathwillbebutapause · 28/11/2023 19:13

She doesn't look Caucasian at all to me.

I saw this photo earlier and had the exact same thought. There is no denying that she looks caucasian in that photo, whether she did that herself or if it's a result of photo editing (which she may or may not have had any input into) we just don't know.

TomatoSandwiches · 28/11/2023 19:15

Beyonce is of mixed heritage, her mother is much lighter skinned than Beyonce and her sister, lighting can and does have dramatic effects on darker based skin tones as does photoshopping.
I really don't believe she would be one to bleach her skin.

Google it. I'd never pull an accusation like that out of nowhere. There are cosmetic doctors issuing statements warning against the use of skin lightening creams off the back of the photos. People are talking about it all over the Internet it's not just something I've thought up myself. As PP said she gets lighter and lighter every year. She looks nothing like her normal self.

Not long ago Caucasian was a description you only heard in American police dramas!

EasternStandard · 28/11/2023 19:17

I wouldn’t have recognised her in that pic but it could be editing

NewNameNigel · 28/11/2023 19:18

but why? What example is that setting to her black and brown fans?

We live in a society that praises whiteness above everything else and simultaneously admonishes black women for being a bad example if they succumb to the pressure.

ManateeFair · 28/11/2023 19:19

Blimey. I really hope that isn't skin-bleaching. I wouldn't have recognised her in that picture. I'm not entirely convinced that skin-bleaching could actually achieve that look though. Where were the pictures published? A lot of publications are notorious for photographing/editing women of colour in ways that make them look lighter-skinned. Or is it meant to make a satirical point about 'blackfishing' or something like that?

I'm actually wondering now if it's AI-generated.

EDIT: Just seen the follow-up posts with the context. No idea whether she's been bleaching her skin, but even if she has, I suspect she doesn't look quite as light as that in real life. I think the lighting and photography has (as it sadly often the case) been set up with white women in mind, which happens a lot with fashion type events. The shiny background isn't helping either, as it reflects a lot of light back. But it's all very odd.
