Hi, so I bought a pair of (expensive) trainers on Vinted on Friday (5 days ago) for a birthday present for my sons girlfriend (birthdays this Friday).

before I bought them, I messaged the lady selling them and asked if she would be able to send them in a timely manner as they were needed for a birthday present. She’s said yes.

firstly said she would send them over the weekend. She didn’t. Then said Monday (yesterday) evening after work… again she didn’t send them. Then last night she said she would send them this morning. Nearly 11am and still nothing!!!

AIBU to be annoyed? I specifically messaged her before purchasing to make sure she was able to send them quick enough to be received by this Friday. If she had said no, I would have bought them from somewhere else! I am really annoyed that at this rate I won’t have anything to give teenager on their birthday and they cost a lot of money. 😢

I've had an update from one of the sellers that I was in contact with on Vinted. They've had the item I wanted to buy up for sale for over a year and it hasn't sold up to now. I put in an offer and asked if payment could be made through an alternative method like Paypal or Revolut but they have declined my offer.
So their item will remain unsold for longer.

(reminder the reason I was asking about paying through an alternative method is because Vinted doesn't operate in the Rep of Ireland).

Is that weird?

Edited

not weird no.

They like to sell via vinted. That is the long and short of it

LookItsMeAgain · 29/11/2023 08:46

@Geneve82 , I had been told that I could buy from Vinted by a friend and fudge my delivery address or something but it's clear that it's not possible to do.

but if royal mail… it doesn’t automatically update that been sent.

The seller has kept telling the buyer that they hadn’t yet posted it

However of course the latest status would be unknown between each “I’ll send it later/tomorow” and the next message

Thank you for your helpful suggestion - I'll bear it in mind.

I'm having major problems with the availability of In Post lockers as they are always full. I always message the buyer to update them though as I like to post within 24 hours if possible.

Hope they turn up OP

Annoying. But just tell her you've ordered something and it hasn't arrived yet, no biggie?

The seller would get banned from Vinted if caught doing off site sales

You put in an 'offer'?

So you wanted them to accept less money, go through more hassle AND not have any protection?

Why would anyone go for that? you say this like you are doing them a huge favor because it hasn't sold but they are more likely to dump it at the local charity shop than jump through hoops so you can have it when you approach with a attitude.

The point of using Vinted is the easy postage system, there no 'hurry' to sell things for most and people don't want to faff on with postage... thats what Ebays for.

It's not allowed to have items on sale on multiple platforms?

I don't think that's true, there is nothing in the Vinted T&Cs that prevent people listing elsewhere.

I actually offered them more than their asking price. A lot more than their asking price. Why would you think I would offer less? If I really wanted the thing (which I've scoured the internet for and this was the first time in AGES that I found it) I was going to offer more.
Most people, at least most people that I know, would try to sell items and if there is no interest, they will take the item down and yes, they would donate it to charity.
Also, if I'm transferring money to them via Paypal or alternative, surely I am the one taking the big risk as I'd be paying up front without receiving the goods, trusting in the seller to do their bit and they would have my money.

But you think what you want to about a situation you have no idea about.

GimmeSleep · 29/11/2023 15:07

If someone offered me over the asking price (never had that happen before, offers are always less than listed price - that's fine I factor it into my pricing) then asked me to sell outside of Vinted I would assume it was a scam tbh 🙁

Because thats not how offers work and what you are saying has a giant flashing 'scam' sign written all over it.

Even if you are genuinely just a little misguided and actually a serious buyer, no seller with a brain cell would take that offer, it reads on par with a Nigerian prince offering you £1,000,000 for posting him £100 of it back.

Geneve82 · 29/11/2023 16:17

@LookItsMeAgain

your friend said you could “fudge” your address in vinted.

How so?

and why not ask her to buy and get delivered to her and you transfer money?

but i very much doubt you can “fudge” your delivery address.

i sell on vinted

i would do exactly as this buyer has done. Thanks but no thanks

Geneve82 · 29/11/2023 16:18

there isn’t much to the “situation” @LookItsMeAgain

we just agree with your buyer 🤷‍♀️
