Hi, so I bought a pair of (expensive) trainers on Vinted on Friday (5 days ago) for a birthday present for my sons girlfriend (birthdays this Friday).

before I bought them, I messaged the lady selling them and asked if she would be able to send them in a timely manner as they were needed for a birthday present. She’s said yes.

firstly said she would send them over the weekend. She didn’t. Then said Monday (yesterday) evening after work… again she didn’t send them. Then last night she said she would send them this morning. Nearly 11am and still nothing!!!

AIBU to be annoyed? I specifically messaged her before purchasing to make sure she was able to send them quick enough to be received by this Friday. If she had said no, I would have bought them from somewhere else! I am really annoyed that at this rate I won’t have anything to give teenager on their birthday and they cost a lot of money. 😢

What method of posting? If it's inpost it might not be her fault, ours is almost always full and I've had sales cancelled because I couldn't drop it off, the next closest one is half an hour in a direction I rarely go, I need to turn it off actually

LookItsMeAgain · 28/11/2023 11:54

I'll join you on being annoyed at Vinted as I've seen a pair of shoes that I really want but because I'm in the Rep of Ireland, the sellers can't sell to me. I might try to see if I can buy them from them in a private sale but because Vinted doesn't operate in Rep of Ireland, I can't select the country I'm actually in and I can't shop from it!

I mean if I was in Lithuania I could shop and get stuff delivered to me but not Ireland. CRAZY!!!

Fraaahnces · 28/11/2023 12:01

Vinted hasn’t even discovered that Australia exists. Would be a great way to get bits and pieces that are out of season there and perfect here. Stupid Vinted.

NunsKnickers · 28/11/2023 12:03

Missing the point here, but it's my birthday on Friday too.

😁

tealweasel · 28/11/2023 12:11

I can see why you're annoyed if she said before you purchased that she would post them promptly, but I never rely on Vinted for something that I need in short order as there's so many places in the process that delay can be encountered. People shouldn't enter into these transactions expecting prompt service - I had someone order a dress from me at 11pm in the evening and then message me at 8.30am the next day telling me I needed to send it that day so she could wear it to a party two days later. I had already left the house for work and wasn't going to be back until late in the evening so I responded telling her exactly that and that I would only be able to post the following morning and she got incredibly huffy about it...

DrMarshaFieldstone · 28/11/2023 12:20

Sorry OP but you’ll need to cancel the sale and get them elsewhere. Are they hard to find?

SnapdragonToadflax · 28/11/2023 12:25

It is annoying but she's not a shop, there's always a risk with Vinted/Ebay. Maybe she was busy or ill.

SuspiciousSue · 28/11/2023 12:27

I bought some brand new trainers on there once. To be fair, they were brand new but when they arrived they were stained yellow down one side (the trainers were white so very noticeable) The seller point blank refused to even acknowledge the stain and said there was nothing there. It was about 6 inches long and 3 inches wide. She wouldn’t pay postage or anything so I could return them. I left a balanced review saying they were brand new but in poor condition and she had the nerve to call me a liar! As you can’t leave photos I had no way to defend myself. Vinted need to allow people to post pictures.

BTW, I only kept them because they were so comfy and I was going on holiday the next day and really needed some trainers.

Londonnight · 28/11/2023 12:29

It's often the delivery companies at fault. I recently sold something on vinted . When it sold I sent it the same day through inbox post. They acknowledged the next day it had been collected. It still took another five days to get to the buyer!

Folklore9074 · 28/11/2023 12:29

I get that it’s annoying but you are buying from an individual on Vinted, a person with all sorts of stuff going on which might mean posting something falls down on the list of priorities. This is partly why it’s cheap(er). Opinions - cancel the sale or explain to son’s gf that present has been held up?

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 28/11/2023 12:30

RudsyFarmer · 28/11/2023 10:58

My assumption would be she’s scammed you and these trainers will never appear.

You can't scam on Vinted. If she doesn't post them then OP will get a refund. If she claims she's posted them but they never arrive, OP will get a refund.

I got caught out last week with something (alcohol may have been involved in my bad decision making) but Vinted realised it was a scammer, blocked them and refunded me within 24 hours

OP I'd cancel the order. If she hasn't sent them by now then likelihood is she isn't going to

WinterNamechange · 28/11/2023 12:33

I always post items the next day if people have chosen in-post delivery, or Evri/Yodel print in store. But if they have chosen an option where I need to actually need to print a label myself, then they would have to wait until I can print the label at work. Could it be something like that?

Graasspp · 28/11/2023 12:35

Sorry yabu to expect any better from vinted.

It sucks

Ap24 · 28/11/2023 12:38

YABU, I think the time to post is too long but it is what it is. As long as she sends it within the required timeframe then I don't see an issue.

tiv2020 · 28/11/2023 12:42

You are not BU to be annoyed
On the other hand I would not expect timeliness from Vinted and would not have purchased there against a set tight deadline
I sell on Vinted too
I run a household and have a ft job
Posting items is very low on my list of priorities

moomoomoo27 · 28/11/2023 12:42

Just tell the girlfriend that you're sorry her present is late arriving. It's really not a big deal and she's not going to be bothered. Do you actually consider this a problem or is it a distraction problem from a problem you have that's actually bad?

Moveoverdarlin · 28/11/2023 12:42

I would leave honest feedback and say ‘pleased with item but slow delivery. Seller assured me she’d post on the Monday, in fact didn’t post until Xday, meaning I missed the recipient’s birthday.’

Tangled123 · 28/11/2023 12:43

I think OP knows people have busy lives and can’t always post right away. That’s why she messaged the seller to check if they could before making the purchase. The seller said ok, so they should know the sale is conditional on a speedy dispatch. If something came up, that sucks, but be honest and let the buyer know so they can cancel and get it elsewhere.
I don’t think OP is BU here.

NonPlayerCharacter · 28/11/2023 12:57

It's annoying but Vinted is basically an online jumble sale. It's great, but it's not made up of professional companies. You're better off buying new from an actual business if it's that important.

ThanksItHasPockets · 28/11/2023 13:00

YANBU to be irritated but I'm afraid Vinted really isn't the place for time-sensitive shopping. You can either choose to get the item cheaper but slower from Vinted, or pay the RRP and have it arrive quickly from a proper retailer. The exception would be if it's something really HTF or limited edition - is that the case here?

PullUpPrince · 28/11/2023 13:02

People are really slack posting things. I think 1-2 working days is about right to post things generally. But clearly if someone asks BEFORE buying you need to stick to your word.

Vinted are really clear that their policy is five working days. Anything quicker than that should be regarded as a bonus (although I do agree that the seller who specifically agreed to post quickly should have honoured that agreement).

backtowinter · 28/11/2023 13:08

I don't always have instant access to a printer and then sometimes I have to trail around over a couple of days trying to find a free locker

If someone was desperate I would try my hardest.

It's not in my interests to hold onto it once sold, I'd rather get it away but sometimes it's hard

ActDottie · 28/11/2023 13:08

RudsyFarmer · 28/11/2023 10:58

That’s really not how Vinted works. The seller has to provide proof of sending and even if it gets lost in the post the buyer gets a refund.

Happened to me when the items got lost in the post so I got a refund.

housethatbuiltme · 28/11/2023 13:51

If I don't have at least 2 week+ until the needed date I don't buy of Vinted. Surely everyone knows that.

Even if she posted 10 minutes after you bought theres no guarantee it would reach you in time.

Especially not given you ordered on BLACK FRIDAY the busiest postal week of the year for companies like EVRI.
