Any advice on getting 18 month old do take inhaler

He's got a very bad cough at night, which has made him throw up.

The inhaler really helps, but it's impossible to give without angering him so much that he possibly throws up again from crying so much.

How can I make this easier ?

I'm trying to do it while he sleeps, but he keeps waking up. Then he sees the inhaler and starts crying and hiding. It's very sad.

Don't hide it from him. If you surprise him with it, it's something frightening.

Can you make it a game? Show him what to do, then something like if you can do that for 5, you get a treat. I think it's 10 breaths for paediatric asthma so work up to that as he ages. Have the treat on hand and visible. Put a video on the tablet while he breathes into the spacer. Any kind of bribe that he responds to. It needs to be done while he's awake and aware, so right before bed.

Could you make up a little song and puff during part of the song? Puff the Magic Dragon. And every time you sing puff puff inhaler?

I used to have to do an inhaler with a toddler. I’d always sing the song 12345 once I caught a fish alive, 678910 then I let him go again. Why did you let him go, because he bit my finger so, which finger did he bite, this little finger on my right! It always worked and seemed to be just a good amount of time!

My LO had an inhaler at 18 months, the nurses told me to make him play with it so that he can see that it's nothing to be scared of. At first it was a battle but the he started administering it himself. Have you been given a spacer ?

Bribery.

A sip of some nice, sugary drink might work.
